[OpenAFS] OpenAFS VS Coda

2005-05-11 Thread dom . toretto
Hello everyone,

THX for all the help with setting up my OpenAFS cell! As I already told you,
I'm doing some research on clustering filesystems (OpenAFS and Coda in
particular), and I want to know if there is someone here who has experience
with both of them.
If so, can you tell me wath the differences are and make a comparison of both?

THX in advance!

Greetz ;-)

THX for the good advice, with this module-assistant it was very easy to install
the module for openafs into the kernel.
Now I'm having trouble with the "kinit admin aklog" command.
I've someone knows what's wrong, thx in advance.

I did the same, downloaded kernel source and make-kpkg my own modules.
But when I do an dpkg -i openafs-modules-...Custom.deb, i get an error:

[OpenAFS] Openafs-client module fails (debian-sarge)

2005-04-27 Thread dom . toretto
Hello everyone,

I'm setting up an AFS-cell with Kerberos authentification on Debian-sarge with
a 2.4.27 kernel.
The servers are already running, but I'm having trouble setting up the client.
I can't load the modules into the kernel. I don't have a clue what's wrong.
Hope someone can get me on the way.
The package I used is openafs-modules-source version 1.2.3final2-6.
Thx.

OK I understand, but I don't have to worry about users and passwords and user
directories. Because this is a testproject.
What I think i shoot do is get the migration tools: asetkey and aklog.
Create an afs entry in Kerberos and so on ...
But I cant find these migration tools for gentoo.
Is there someone who knows where to find them??

[OpenAFS] Kerberos 5 in OpenAFS

2005-04-20 Thread dom . toretto
Hello Everybody,

I've set up an OpenAFs cell, and it works fine. I can create Users, user
directories and so on.
But now I'm trying to implement Kerberos 5 into openAFS, I find a lot of
information about what goes wrong or what mistakes people make.
But I don't know how to start.
Some people talk about migration tools like asetkey and aklog, but what do they
do?
Is there someone who can help me get on the way implementing Kerberos into
OpenAFS???
I'm working with gentoo, and my kernel-version is 2.4.26.
The version of OpenAFS is 1.2.11

THX in advance.

Fwd: [OpenAFS] ports used by OpenAFS?

2005-03-22 Thread dom . toretto
Hello,

Before setting up my AFS-cell, I set up a CODA-cell. This cell automatically
supported disconnected operation. Because this is a very good feature, I want
to know if it's also integrated in OpenAFS of if it's possible to integrate it?

Then I have another question, what is the best way to create a secure
environment. With this I mean an environment where a server outage doesn't have
any effect on any of the clients writing or reading files from this server.

[OpenAFS] Wich Linux distribution?

2005-03-15 Thread dom . toretto
Hello Everybody,

Thx for the respons in previous posts, but what I want to know is wich
distribution of Linux is the best to implement an OpenAFS system?
I already tried Slackware and Gentoo, but both off them are not the best
distributions for OpenAFS.
Who has good experiences with OpenAFS on Linux with a 2.4.26 kernel?
And wich distribution did you use?

Are you absolutely sure about it, that this could be the cause of the quorum
error? Because I'm using gentoo and it works with automatic package installer
called emerge. And when you type emerge net-fs/openafs it automatically
downloads the needed packages and installs them.

[OpenAFS] Please help! Error in server synchronisation

2005-03-14 Thread dom . toretto
Hello everybody,

I've got two servers running AFS. Both of them are running the fileserver and
database processes. But there is a problem whenever I want to synchronize the
VLDB with the vos syncvldb command.

The error it shows is always the "no quorum elected"-error.

I've read a lot about "no quorum elected"-errors in the archives of this
mailing lists. No I've already setup one server as ntp-server and the other as
client so I think it isn't the synchronisation problem of Ubik.
Is there someone who has experience with this error, or someone who can help me.
Big THX

[OpenAFS] Error creating volume

2005-03-09 Thread dom . toretto
Hello,

First a big thx to everyone for the help on getting the second server up and
running. But now I am having trouble creating a new volume.
I am logged in on the server as root and on openafs as admin so i have all the
rights needed to create a new volume.
The ntpd daemon is also running so both servers are well synchronised, I've
checked it with the date command.
But when I try to create a new volume with :

 /usr/afs/bin/vos create pcg10209.khlim.be /vicepa user.tomv -localauth

I get the following error:
Could not get an Id for volume user.tomv
 u: no quorum elected
 Error in vos create command
 u: no quorum elected

Can someone help me?

THX

Loretto

[OpenAFS] Problem with starting back up

2005-03-08 Thread dom . toretto
Hello everybody,

This morning I mailed about a problem about not getting my second server up and
running. Well it has worked. The problem now is that it isn't working anymore
since did a reboot.
This is what I did.

 1. I did a clean shutdown with the bos shutdwon command of both servers
 2. Then I did a reboot of both servers
 3. First I started the SCM up with the bosserver command
 4. Then I did the same with the second server, but it keeps giving me warnings

FSYNC_clientInit temporary failure (will retry): Connection Refused

And it keeps saying this.

Can someone help me?

THX

[OpenAFS] Second AFS-server problems!

2005-03-08 Thread dom . toretto
Hello Everyboby,

First maybe a little introduction because this is my first mail to this mailing
list. I'm a 23 jear old student from Belgium and since this year an official
Linux user. For this last year all the students have to do a big project, my
project is to do research about clustering filesystems. Now I am trying to get
an OpenAFS system running, I have succeeded in getting one SCM up and running.
But I'm having trouble with the second server. I hope someone can help me with
this problem because I'm running out of time. The purpose is to get the exact
same server as the first running.
To set up the first, I used the Gentoo Manual for AFS. I allmost read the whole
manual on OpenAFS while trying to get the second server up and running, but
still I didn't succeed.
Hope someone can help a bit closer to my objective and give me the wright
commands to get the second server up and running and synchronizing with the
first.

Thx

Loretto
