This is true :) They aren't motivating. And, this is true, we are all volunteering. I'll keep on getting the install ported, and hope you guys will be inspired to help out. :) At the end of the day though, have to get the work done in making the project good, which you Dave, have really taking to the next level with your sponsorship! Jon Phillips wrote: Ok, I challenge you to lead the audit. I also challenge Raph to help to. Well, I'll do my best to help with this. (Don't think Raph will have time). We're all busy but hopefully it doesn't mean we loose sight of the goal of a trustworthy quality open font library. Re: [OpenFontLibrary] [Open Font Library] Upload Flagged
2009/3/4 Nicolas Spalinger nicolas_spalin...@sil.org: Via recent email discussion with Asana Math's author he explains that: - he hasn't touched Palladio - pxfonts was used as the basis of his design for many glyphs but not everything - he has explicit permission to relicence from the author of pxfonts I recommended he put this information in a more complete readme file (or better a FONTLOG http://openfontlibrary.org/wiki/Fontlog ) and in the font metadata. There was ftp://ftp.inria.fr/pub/TeX/CTAN/fonts/Asana-Math/README.1ST already. We should take this in good faith Yes, therefore I have made Asana public again at http://openfontlibrary.org/media/files/publish/asyropoulos/219 I would like to publicly offer my sincere apologies to Apostolos for not asking him first about the font's origins before I hid it. This is clearly not the right procedure to take when a font is flagged as unsafe; ask questions first, shoot the font later :-) Cheers, Dave
Re: [OpenFontLibrary] [Open Font Library] Upload Flagged
2009/3/4 Nicolas Spalinger nicolas_spalin...@sil.org: if there are problems upstream of  pxfonts itself, then it's another story... Right. Well, I've just opened p52003l.pfb from the Ubuntu gsfonts package, and Asana from the OFLB, and the pxfonts at http://www.ctan.org/get/fonts/pxfonts.zip from http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/pxfonts/ That pxfonts zip contains a few dozen small font files, with a lot of maths related glyphs, and none of the standard roman glyphs abcde... The URW Palladio has all the roman glyphs and none of the fancy maths ones. Asana has both, but there are often some subtle differences from URW and Asana, and sometimes not... http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_asana_1.png http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_asana_1_zoom.png http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_asana_a.png http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_px_asana_copyright-handles.png http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_px_asana_copyright.png http://dave.lab6.com/acid/dump/2009/urw_px_asana_dollars.png -- Regards, Dave

Re: [OpenFontLibrary] [Open Font Library] Upload Flagged
Hi all, Ed Trager wrote: I agree 100% with Nicolas on this one. As do I! OpenFontLibrary needs to be of the highest quality on every front. The font analysis program I'm working on (fontaine) will be able to tell you what is in the Copyright and License fields of a TTF or OTF font file, so hopefully that will serve as a first line of defense on the new site. Maybe fontaine can help speed up the audit of fonts that are already on the site (once I get fontaine to a releasable point, that is ...) Having seen what the prelease code can do, I'm certain it will be of great help in this respect and several others. Ben -- Ben Weiner | http://readingtype.org.uk/about/contact.html
