Yes I did, and people have wide variety of way of describing their
thoughts. Things could be more on topic. nothing else.

What I don't need is some meandering post on how "we" should handle
differences of opinion. What I would like, and speaking in agreement
with Dave above, is for the list moderator or administrator – if
indeed there is one – to consider further discussion of OpenSXCE
formally off-topic, except in the specific circumstances summarised by
Dave, that is, /"features that would be worth re-engineering for
OpenIndiana//"/.

I fully understand what you requests but I truly think that filtering
ability of sending messages to OI is not good and not needed. Calls for
casting away people are also not great.

I agree there could be more talking about OI and you are free to start
topic,

but I think OpenSXCE story is fully relevant to Openindiana in wider sense.
(also regarding not having it's own mailing list atm)
Casting away people and not letting them to talk on the list list is out
of question. (except spam, fully offtopic)

I also thank you on sharing opinion that OpenSXCE talk is offtopic.
Maybe one day when we grow up and have 50 regular contributors.

He's not going to contribute, nor is he going to stop insulting
people, and so on.
I think that he made only Openindianabanded release that also works on
SPARC beside x86. I hope that counts.

If you'd like to look back through the list archives, he's been
claiming he's going to unsubscribe since June 2013.

:) Yeah, so that way one can not be unsubscribed by anyone else. ...
I also don't like advertizing subscribing/unsubscribing in any way,
think it is also rude from one telling that he/she will or not subscribe.

And public should actually not care about does people subscribe or not...
As well over that time, and at a cursory glance, he's directly
insulted or accused Garret D'Amore, Volker Brandt, Jonathan Adams, Ben
Taylor, Dmitry Kozhinov, Dormition Skete, me, you... and most probably
several others. This is with language ranging from "freetards" to
"capitalists" to "thieves" – and much worse examples abound.

Yeah but I think we should be polite still.
Because communicating on topic could change things. Let's be as wide as
we can in accepting differences.

It is true that Martin should be more on topic and not also bashing
people, but we can't stop people from sending on this list as long at
least major parts of messages are about software.

Also we are caught (again) on same mistake over and over:
instead of talking on software projects, we are talking on persons and
that is trolling, too.

I also truly like, Dave, that you stepped up and said your opinions
about being more on topic, I guess Martin should understand too.

For time being, use your mail filters.
But i think things are generally going into positive way as a result of
this thread and that we don't have reasons to continue this thread it
right now.

Would this be the same story we've been hearing ad nauseum for months,
by any chance? That is, "Martin created a distro -> no-one's come to the
party -> he's upset -> he's never going to contributing code -> he's
unsubscribing"?

Casting away people and not letting them to talk on the list list is
out of question. (except spam, fully offtopic)

Can you please share for everyone here where the Russian/Ukrainian
conflict falls in your spectrum of "off topic", exactly? Please do so in
the context of an end-user discussion list for a Unix distribution.

I also thank you on sharing opinion that OpenSXCE talk is offtopic.

You've done nothing to address the fact that other list members are
sufficiently disturbed by Martin's conduct to also call for it to be
off-topic.

Apparently the illumos folks saw this differently enough to do just
that. I'd like to see the same happen here.

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] OpenSXCE

2014-09-20 Thread Dormition Skete (Hotmail)
HELLO: If *everyone* would simply *stop posting* to these threads, perhaps
they might die…

It was a mistake to have said anything at all about OpenSXCE on this list. I
had the best of intentions, but as the old saying goes, “The road to hell is
paved with good intentions.”

Peter had asked about an OpenSolaris based solution for Sparc. Somebody else
mentioned OpenSXCE, but when nobody responded to his queries for further info,
I was stupid, and took the devil’s bait. I regret having fallen for it.

But with all due respects, most of you are acting like a bunch of little
children. You want the thread to die, and have peace restored on the list; but
you also insist on having to have the last word. And as long as you maintain
this behaviour, it’s not going to die.

So some of you might want to think about growing up…

If you want the thread to die, then let it die.

Cordially,

Peter, hieromonk
