[OpenIndiana-discuss] How to install the last version of bootstrap

2015-09-10 Thread Loïc Maury
Hello,

I try to install and configure the software package management from
http://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/3.+Installing+software+and+package+management

I choosed option 2, the version of bootstrap used is
bootstrap-2014Q2-x86_64.tar.gz
but I tried with
the last version bootstrap/bootstrap-2015Q2-x86_64.tar.gz and unfortunately
that
doesn't work with error :

ld.so.1: pkgin: fatal: libc.so.1: version 'ILLUMOS_0.6' not found (required
by file /opt/local/bin/pkgin)
ld.so.1: pkgin: fatal: libc.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

How I can install the last version ?

Thank you

Best

Loic

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Multiple monitor support

2015-09-10 Thread Krzysztof Grzempa
Consider editing Xorg.conf leaving just very basic sections, and start from
there.

Most problems with X's starting is related to the wrong driver settings in
Device section, something like that:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "vesa" #Choose the driver used for this monitor
EndSection

Vesa driver is very generic driver, which work with most of the GPU's, no
acceleration and poor resolution, but you can treat it as a rollback
solution.

There is also a 151a9 release ISO. I've been using it as my work

Well I am not sure if it is OS related considering that on Debian 8.2:
- Iceweasel 31.7.0 eats up continously 30% to 70% of one core (even without
browsing) of a Core i5.
- Flash crashes as often (if not more) as on OI Hipster.
- Closing Iceweasel or Icedove often leads to a zombified process lurking
in the background.

Not to mention network manager taking 25% of cpu all the time... in total
one core used for doing nothing.
Stability is an overrated concept it seems...

I was able to reboot into the other boot menu option (not openindiana-1,
but something about development) and get it to work. But, I'm back in my
old configuration now before the update.

How can I copy over the X settings from this boot menu configuration to the
openindiana-1 menu configuration?

Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin
