HI Gabrielle
Update of XstreamOS is OK for me (XstreamOS 154 under virtualbox-4.3.34).
I have a problem since the previous update to 154 done 2015 25/11.
It's related to VirtualBox extension pack : Full screen mode no longer working.
It works with 153beta.
Waiting for Firefox update.

Out of curiosity from which tree do you build your software ?
Do you have a userland-type or a spec-files repository ? (or something else)

Thanks, it works!
only on 'clean' it miss the source dir.

If I rerun 'gmake build' it attemts to repatch also.
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n]
Apply anyway? [n]

Can I skip this?

You can look at illumos-gate Makefile. It does git checkout -f && git
clean -f before patching.

You can use partitions as vdevs if you want to share the device with some other
os (dualboot); otherwise partition it all for solaris, define slices for zil,
arc, maybe rpool... best practice is to not share, greediness and other
constraints say otherwise ;)

Hi.

oi-userland uses gcc-49 (developer/gcc-49). SFE uses its own compiler
(sfe/developer/gcc, which now is a wrapper for sfe/developer/gcc-48),
illumos-gate is built with patched gcc (developer/illumos-gcc), which
shouldn't be used for anything else.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] [informational] HyperX Predator PCIe SSD usable as ZFS cache device

2016-01-14 Thread the outsider
Just to inform everyone, i tested the HyperX Predator PCIe SSD 240GB in a HP
ML350G6 server yesterday and it was detected by the OS as a new drive.

I must say I that the OS was SmartOS, but I am almost certain that the
device will work on OI also.

I have attached it as a cache device to my ZFS mirror and it worked very
well.

Unfortunality HP made a crapy bios for the ML350G6 which detects the PCIe
device and adjusts the ventilatorspeeds to 70% without any need.

Since I use the ML as a home/office server the increased acoustics of the
vents made me crazy and I removed the Predator.

When I have time I will install it in a server in the datacentre where we
have a 16x 300GB ZFS storage and I can run different benchmarks.

Format detected the device without any troubles as c1t0d0 and I could
partition it.

It would be nice to create some partitions for cache and ZIL on the device,
but I don't know if ZFS needs a whole drive or just a partition?

I'm not sure what is in Alexander's example, but OTOH you can download any
snapshot (including current head) as a tar.gz from github. If you disable local
checksum verification, you'd always pull a new tarball (even if identical to
current one you might have).
