Hello.
No ideas, but you could dig in why CanActivateSessions fails.
Is svc:/system/vtdaemon:default online?
Look at what ConsoleKit is trying to do there.

What does gdmdynamic -l shows?

shows nothing
# gdmdynamic -l

That's strange. On our server I see
# gdmdynamic -l
:11,,-1;:12,user79,-1;:13,user58,-1;:14,,-1;:15,monuser,-1;:16,user82,-1;:17,,-1;:18,,-1;:19,user81,-1;:20,user80,-1;:21,user70,-1;:22,user93,-1;:23,user94,-1;:24,user78,-1;:25,user96,-1;:26,user76,-1;:28,user77,-1

Is vtdaemon service online? Have you looked why consolekit
CanActivateSessions method returns false?

[OpenIndiana-discuss] Dual booting oi151a7 & hipster-using-grub?

2017-01-19 Thread Hans J Albertsson
A friend, who used to work for Sun, suggested a wee bit vaguely but still,
a way to populate a new BE with a new install rather than an upgrade.

Create new be
Mount it on /mnt
Cd /mnt
rm -rf *
Install new stuff on a new be on a temp disk
Zfs send/recv new stuff into /mnt

What say you?
Can this be done, and what gotchas are there?

Then you're misunderstanding the roadmap, which shows both on-premise & cloud
releases going forward until at least 2021.

So data-machine and fishwork-storage are some kinds of variations from Solaris
and SPARC, if users want to touch by hand.

ZFS Storage Appliances ("fishworks") use x86 CPUs and their own OS versions,

Hello.
No ideas, but you could dig in why CanActivateSessions fails.
Is svc:/system/vtdaemon:default online?
Look at what ConsoleKit is trying to do there.

What does gdmdynamic -l shows?
Can you force adding display with gdmdynamic ? (or delete/add)?

Not really. I'd suggest

Use sata instead of scsi, and use only the 12-byte command, not the

And, where can I find some docs to help me evaluate reports? In

I only use 'man smartctl'

I have tried, following lots of ideas from lots of people on this list, but to

So, I have come to a point where I absolutely need to run smartmontools to avoid
problems, and smartctl fails.

I installed smartmontools version 6.5 from a tar ball, and it seems to run, but

What could be wrong??? does this indicate a sw error or something broken in the
SATA interfaces??

[OpenIndiana-discuss] smartmontools under OI151a7

2017-01-19 Thread Hans J. Albertsson

I have an OI 151a7 system that for some reason NEVER EVER could be updated.

I have tried, following lots of ideas from lots of people on this list,
but to absolutely no avail.

So, I have come to a point where I absolutely need to run smartmontools
to avoid problems, and smartctl fails.

I installed smartmontools version 6.5 from a tar ball, and it seems to

From that roadmap, my understanding is there is no on-premise and standalone
Solaris and SPARC releases after 2017 and everything goes into cloud. If there
are such needs, users have to buy cloud services from Oracle. Is it correct? So
data-machine and fishwork-storage are some kinds of variations from Solaris and
SPARC, if users want to touch by hand.
