[OpenIndiana-discuss] VirtualBox and USB passthrough

2019-04-30 Thread Michal Nowak
Have you ever seen VirtualBox USB passthough working on illumos or
Solaris (be it with our or Oracle VirtualBox binaries)?

We have this ticket https://www.illumos.org/issues/10855 rightfully
noting that USB passthrough does not work (in my note there are more
debugging information).

Before I start to looking into this, I was just wondering if it ever
worked...

Thanks,
Michal

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Repo for OI packages

2019-04-30 Thread Chris Game

Thanks for that info, Till. I had anther close look at the CSW page
and although there were some initial issues, it was easy enough to set
up, and had a wider range of applications than the installed repo.

Regards, Chris.

Is this a suitable repo for packages? Is this a common error, if so
what to do? Is there a better repo?

Thanks for any help.

For those interested in further details on illumos memory model, see

I work on next Firefox ESR and with Firefox 66 I am in the process of

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] VirtualBox 6.0.6 with VNC extension pack, web service

2019-04-30 Thread Till Wegmüller
Hi Michal

Yes the original definition by sun states that no scripting shall taker
place during Installation. It is the Job of the SOftware to work on a
newly installed system without adaptations by the Packager.

THat said SMF services have always been considered as part of the
software and can be triggered by package installations with the service
action. So yes you can make an SMF service that handles the post install
actions.

Hope this helps

P.S. Just have installed 6.0.6 and not sure if we have to execute:

That's actually a tricky thing. Yes, to be on the safe side, one should
always run the command with virtualbox update, however, the rate of
changes to VNC is minimal, so, practically, it's quite safe to do it
only for major version changes.

I thought about doing it after installation, but as far as I know, we
don't have scripting hooks in IPS, so, one off SMF service seems to be
the right approach?

the OpenCSW looks suitable but the setup program (pkgutil.pkg)

claims it works with Solaris 10/11.

Is this a suitable repo for packages? Is this a common error, if so
