Thank you so much.
Why nobody fixed it and why VirtualBox doesn't have any "illumos" and
"OpenIndiana" in its list?

It never worked. Auto resize doesn't work for OI. You have to use the Display
utility under Preferences of your MATE menu to change to a resolution you want.
This resolution is fixed. Anytime you need a different resolution, you need to
change it again. It's the reason why I always set the resolution equals to the
resolution of the host system and always launch OI in full screen mode.

BTW, other people was right. The guest addition for OI doesn't support VMSVGA.
You have to switch to VBoxVGA. Even VBoxSVGA will not work.

Hope it helps.

Possibly it was a mistake to install the Solaris additions
package on OI.

Auto resize works fine with OI's virtualbox-additions package
and the VM configured with vboxvga.

Thank you.
It's worked. It is a little odd for me, I already installed
virtualbox-additions package, but Auto-resize doesn't work. I did:
# pkg install virtualbox-additions
# pkg update
# reboot

And, it's worked.

I believe this is because no one has done the work to contribute that to the
open source project, and no one has paid Oracle's VirtualBox team to do the
work themselves. OS'es with tiny user bases don't get support added by just
wishing for it, and having an already listed OS be close enough for most
purposes pushes it even further down the priority list.

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] python-gi in OI?

2021-02-15 Thread Alexander Pyhalov
Hi.
Sorry for being late for the party...

Where is from virt-manager is coming?
Gobject introspection (gi module) is available for 64-bit python.
Try to use one of Python3.x.

Тема: [OpenIndiana-discuss] python-gi in OI?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get virt-manager to work. But it complains about not being
able to load gi:

tba@emu:/opt$ virt-manager
Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "/usr/bin/virt-manager", line 6, in
 from virtManager import virtmanager
   File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/virtmanager.py", line 15,
in
 import gi
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'gi'
tba@emu:/opt$

Does anyone know if we have gi somewhere?

pip fails because python.org has disabled their xmlrpc service because
of a DoS problem. (https://status.python.org/)

TIA

/tony

When you type your VM name to have the string 'openindiana' it will
automatically set the OS type to Solaris 10 or later 64 bit.

For Illumos, you have to choose Solaris 10 or later 64 bit as OS type and
another important thing is enable Use host cache under Storage of VM Setting.
Without it, the VM runs like a snail.

I don't know why it's not set by default. Other OSes just set Use host IO cache
by default.
