Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] ML350G6 What to do?

There are some non-standard commands the array controller uses when talking to the drives. Using non-HP drives will lead to strange issues with drives randomly going offline or "failing". -- -=[ Count Zero / TBH - Jussi Hämäläinen - email co...@theblah.fi ]=- ___ openindiana-discuss mailing list openindiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Defect zpool after replacing hard discs
On Fri, 19 Jul 2013, thorsten.h...@vkb.de wrote: Because spare parts from HP are exorbitant expensive and come with only 6 months of warranty I thought I'd better buy three new and bigger discs to replace the old 500GB ones, and ended up buying 3x WD1003FBYX from Western Digital (enterprise discs, 1TB) that come with 5 years warranty. HP SmartArray expects the drives to have HP firmware. The SmartArray controller sends proprietary instructions (surface scan, HW status query, etc.) to the drives sometimes, which are not understood by regular off-the-shelf disks. I've seen this kind of behaviour before when I plugged in non-HP U320 SCSI disks into a DL380 G4. It seemed to work initially, but the RAID array would keep going off line randomly until I replaced the disks with original HP drives. In new Gen8 ProLiants non-HP drives will actually be detected as a hardware fault. If you don't want to purchase HP drives then you also have to replace SmartArray with a generic SAS (or SATA) controller. -- Jussi ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Change IP Address for a zone.
On Thu, 14 Mar 2013, dormitionsk...@hotmail.com wrote: It looks like I am going to have to change the IP Address for one of my zones. I'm using "ip-type=exclusive", so I can't just change it with zonecfg, like I would if it was "shared". A zone with ip-type=exclusive acts just like the global zone as far as networking goes. You should use the ipadm command to change your zone's IP address and the route command to set a new default gateway if required. There is absolutely no need to unconfigure the zone due to a simple IP address change. -- Jussi ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
