FWIW, I just used the OI-hipster-text-20221123.iso to install OI and saw
no reference to either documentation site.

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Link to OI202110 is Missing

2022-09-16 Thread epektasis
There is sha256sum problem, specifically:
1) On http://dlc.openindiana.org/isos/hispter/ the sha256sum for the
Live DVD has 31 Oct 21 in the filename and the contents begin with
061466e
2) On https://dlc.openindiana.org/isos/hipster/, which is where I
landed moments ago by following the link to the mirrors, the sha256sum
for the Live DVD has 30 April 21 in the filename and the contents
begin with 66e8bac
Thus, your download appears to be accurate and the sha256sum files appear to
be mixed up. It looks like the correct sha256sum for the 31 Oct 21 iso is in
the 20210430 sha256sum file. So, you can check this for yourself and I
believe you will find that your download was good. Whoever is reponsible for
the website should correct this error (IMHO).

FWIW, I downloaded that iso some time ago and installed it. I also just
moments ago also downloaded it again, just for kicks. Hope this his helpful.

The link is at www.openindiana.org/downloads/ though I didn't check the
sha256sum.

I had similar result in Vbox when only 4Gb memory was available to OI. OI ran
fine with 4Gb but updating maxxed that out. You might check how much memory
Vbox allots to OI.

FWIW, I downloaded the 2021.04.30 gui install and installed it into Vbox
(6.1.22 on Artix Linux) with 4.25 Gb RAM allotted. It installed fine. True,
gparted did not work, but the graphical installer selected the entire
available partition, though it only used 7.3Gb. Rebooted fine (apparently the
boot loader was installed), except system/xvm/ipagent:default failed
repeatedly and was transitioned to maintenance; but the gui interface loaded
and I logged in. I believe I had that same error when I installed that
2021.04.05 test release; in that former case, pkg update cleared up that
problem and perhaps it will this time also. I did not find these matters to
be "major" problems; the newly installed system is running.

Usually when I get a message like that, I've issued the rm command while in
the subdirectory I want removed.

You could try running firefox with apulse (e.g., $apulse firefox) to see
if that gives you the sound you are missing. Or use smtube, if
available, instead of firefox. I haven't tried either of these on OI
but had to use them on linux not too many months ago. Best wishes for
ever-continuing growth!
