Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Firefox 13 & Java

2012-10-17 Thread Reginald Beardsley
Because 13 was the latest version when I did the update from the one in 151a.
I didn't discover that it disabled Java until now. There's only one website I
need Java for that I know of.

I'm not aware of any reason I want 16.0.1 instead of 13. I *certainly* didn't
want 16.0.

ta for that, I downloaded 16, on the day Mozilla said they had stopped
it because of a bug and I forgot to check after that.

15 works fine for me (with the usual websites that I can't access or
it core dumps) except my RSS feeds don't update to tell me which ones
I've already clicked on until later in the day, hopefully 16 will fix
that niggle :)

Why Firefox 13?

Firefox 16.0.1 is available at
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/16.0.1/contrib/

where did you install jre1.7.0_07 ?

jadams@jadlaptop:/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/plugins$ ls -l /usr/jdk/

drwxr-xr-x 4 root bin4 May 26 2010 packages

jadams@jadlaptop:/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/plugins$ ls -l /usr/java
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root  10 Mar  9  2012 /usr/java -> jdk/latest

jadams@jadlaptop:/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/plugins$ cd /opt/sfw/lib/firefox/plugins

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root  34 Jun 22  2010 libnpjp2.so ->
/usr/java/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

I extracted my JDK into /usr/jdk/instances then created the symlinks
from the parent directory (/usr/jdk) to get the latest versions.

I need a 1.6 java to run SQLDeveloper ...

[OpenIndiana-discuss] Firefox 13 & Java

2012-10-16 Thread Reginald Beardsley
I updated to Firefox 13 some time ago.  I just discovered that it "disabled
Java because it was out of date".

I've installed jre1.7.0_07 per the  Oracle instructions (which are hopelessly
out of date and stop at Firefox 4) and restarted Firefox.

Firefox Tools->Add-ons->Plugins says "You don't have any add-ons of this type
installed."

There's a working symlink in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins to libnpjp2.so

Any suggestions?  google didn't produce anything relevant and "learn more" from
Firefox just wants to pimp things I don't want.  The OI Java install seems to
be a bowl of symlink spaghetti.

Is there something in the user directory that affects this? I tried creating a
new .mozilla tree, but ti didn't help.

Thanks,
Reg
