[OpenIndiana-discuss] Where are my auto snapshots?
A new install of 151a as virtual guest on win7 OS (with Vbox) I've enabled time-slider in the gui All sevices appear to be running: # svcs -a |grep 'time-slider\|auto-snap' disabled Oct_29 svc:/application/time-slider/plugin:zfs-send disabled Oct_29 svc:/application/time-slider/plugin:rsync online Oct_29 svc:/application/time-slider:default online 13:29:51 svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:daily online 13:30:51 svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:frequent online 13:31:00 svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:hourly online 13:31:10 svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:monthly online 13:31:15 svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:weekly But still no snapshots: ls /rpool/.zfs/snapshot ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss

Maybe someone can tell why it is not for me. And further isn't that a rather basic thing to not have working? ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss

I've installed 151a on several machines recently and auto-snapshots work properly in all of them. All I do is run "time-slider-setup" GUI as root, choose custom settings and only enable auto-snapshots for some filesystems (e.g. home dirs only). What do you get with "zfs list -t all" ? It should list all snapshots. Have you tried it on a real machine to rule out any problem related to virtualbox? ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss

It should list all snapshots. It only shows a few I've made manually in a zpool of my createion. That output is kind of long to put here but since I selected the default `all' when enabling time-slider this should be sufficient: zfs list -t all [...] rpool 4.57G 3.25G45K /rpool rpool/ROOT 3.75G 3.25G31K legacy rpool/ROOT/openindiana 3.75G 3.25G 3.70G / rpool/ROOT/openindiana@install 51.7M - 2.74G - [...] > Have you tried it on a real machine to rule out any problem related to > virtualbox? I'm not sure how VB could be responsible. But no... no opportunity for now. I can say though that out of two recent installs of 151a in VB neither wound up with a working time-slider. I already posted here about the first one... Any ideas how I can debug this? ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss

I didn't actually see any screen shots there that appeared to be time-slider related and a search on string `time-slider' had no results. They may well be there, I didn't spend much time looking. > Keep in mind that this is beta, so these issues are expected. Well, yes but then its just as `beta' for other users who report having the time-slider working well. The issue reported in the `Release notes' is about a missing service... seems it would be missing for all installations of 151a then eh? >From Known issues at: http://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/oi_151a+Release+Notes ZFS time-slider and auto-snapshots not working due to missing zfssnap-roleadd SMF service But yet a fair number of people have reported that it worked for them, some even saying it worked out of the box... ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
