I think this is what you are after:

Be sure to read the Troubleshooting notes.

Well, SFE is a separate repository now. The warning is for the case when you
have gcc 4.x installed from OpenSolaris repo. Just uninstall it if you do,
add SFE repo to your system, and install gcc from there.
It has 4.6.1 now:
http://pkg.openindiana.org/sfe/info/0/pkg%3A%2F%2Fsfe%2Fruntime%2Fgcc%404.6.1%2C5.11-0.151.1%3A20110914T125451Z

[OpenIndiana-discuss] gcc 4.x on OpenIndiana 151

2011-09-22 Thread Jerry Kemp
I have just completed a new install of oi-151 and I would like to have a copy
of gcc 4.x installed for compiling misc items.

Performing a

# pkg search gcc

shows only the 3.4.x stuff.

I did a search of the FAQ and wiki without any solid results. I did come
across this page specifically

http://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/Spec+Files+Extra+Repository

which warns against using the gcc 4.x from the OpenSolaris repository.

If the answer is in the standard docs, sorry, I missed them.
