I had a similar problem on intel sr2625urlx systems and ended up just doing the text install. i didnt revisit the issue to see if i could later install the gui and patch it up. good luck. j. I fought this a couple years ago and eventually figured it out, but the sequence is slightly vague in my mind. It's something to do with the 1G header file mentioned on http://wiki.openindiana.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=25231661 being too small or too large for your usb stick. Maybe the 2G header file might help? I had a similar issue and used that instead. Can't recall the details though.
