Just starting the application was enough. I did not do anything special.
After all, there are very few things one can configure.

I think I have solved the sound problem. I just played a bit with

Do you remember if you had to make any changes in there, or was it enough
to just start that application, to get audio working?

It has been about a month since I last did a 'pkg update' on my main
hipster workstation, so I'm keenly interested in any problems (and fixes!)
that people run into with 2016.10.

OK I have installed MATE and it works now. Thank you! However, I have noticed

that there is some problem with sound capabilities. First there is no gadget to
set the sound level and second there is some problem with pulse audio:

Hi.

This has been discussed on the list multiple times, and it's described

Latest gcc-49 is developer/gcc-49@4.9.4,5.11-2016.0.1.0:20161027T162708Z
.

We have gcc-5, developer/gcc-5@5.4.0,5.11-2016.0.1.1:20161027T164829Z ,
but it's a separate package.

How to install MATE is literally the next section in the Release Notes,
after the one that covers how to fix the update problem.

PS: the reason that the Xorg update was not included is described way
at the end of the release notes.

But after applying the work-around I managed to

update the system but I did not get MATE, the

latest Xorg and my gcc has not been updated.

I had the impression that these things would be
updated. At any rate, I would really appreciate
it if you could let me know how do I update gcc
and how I can install MATE.
