Hi All,
I started reading openNMS, will have some starter level Questions. Appreciate
if you can help.
How to Configure a Network Element to openNMS. I want to configure cisco 2950
with openNMS in order to monitor.
First, configure SNMP read-only access with a communit of your choice. This
should be a good start for your cisco 2950
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2950/software/release/12.1_9_ea1/configuration/guide/swsnmp.html
If you're done, test SNMP from your OpenNMS machine with
snmpwalk -v 2c -c your-readonly-community your-cisco-ip
Add the Community to OpenNMS
Admin -- Configure SNMP Community Names by IP
Fill out the form, at minimum First IP Adress and Community String. Go to
Admin -- Add Interface and put in the cisco ip address.
Wait a few minutes and hopefully you'll a monitored Cisco device.
For further quick start questions take a look at

I hope it helps.
Short hint, I guess it is better to place this kind of questions in
opennms-discuss mailinglist.
