Seriously speaking - no offense to xxx - if the stm32f1 and stm32f2
are different types of flash memories this f1 f2 nomenclature would be
more precise as "stm32x" logically also contains "stm32f2xxx" (by
containing "stm32f") what can be misleading. F1 and F2 seems to be
more accurate :-)

This is a good idea to clean that up.
I think you can go one step further by dropping the 'x' (which has no meaning) 
in order to rename:
 - stm32x to stm32f1
 - stm32f2xxx to stm32f2
