4. Starts a "scale-out" by starting 2 new VM's in the cluster ~02:30

5. The new VM's boots using a "proble-kernel"

6. SAF is made aware of the new VM's and are supposed to include them in the
SAF cluster ~02:31

I think the logs at ~2:20 is turbulence from the install and SAF start.

The fault is intermittent and occurs around 1 out of 20 nightly tests so we
can't give
an instruction how to reproduce it. It does however re-occurs so if we can look
for something
in particular or turn on some extra logging we can do so and provide the
information.

This happens only some of the time.

First this is called from an application:

saImmOmInitialize(immHandle, NULL, &version)

Then the system log shows this error:

Note that I wrote tickets [#1607] and [#1609] some time ago, for cleaning up
this sort of problems "properly". We can of course patch the system to solve
the most urgent problems, but I would like to see a long-term proper solution
as well - maybe in the next release?

[tickets] [opensaf:tickets] #1834 amf: amfd crashes during deletion of MW NoRed SI while standby SC is coming up.

2016-05-17 Thread Praveen

---

** [tickets:#1834] amf: amfd crashes during deletion of MW NoRed SI while
standby SC is coming up.**

**Status:** accepted
**Milestone:** 4.7.2
**Created:** Tue May 17, 2016 09:16 AM UTC by Praveen
**Last Updated:** Tue May 17, 2016 09:16 AM UTC
**Owner:** Praveen
**Attachments:**

-
[amfd_crashes.tgz](https://sourceforge.net/p/opensaf/tickets/1834/attachment/amfd_crashes.tgz)
 (145.3 kB; application/x-compressed)

Steps to reproduce:
1)Bring up one controller up (say SC-1).
2)While bringing up second controller up(SC-2), try to delete the NoRed MW SI
to be assigned on SC-2. Issue comes when CCB opoerations related callbacks are
timed in this order:
-Completed callback must come when NoRed SI is not assigned for standby
controller. So in this case, Active controller will ack for completed cbk to
imm.
-Now before active AMFD gets the apply callback, NoRed si must gets
assigned,
-After this, active AMFD gets the apply callback and it deletes the SI and
also remove the assignment from the component on standby.
 3) NoRed SI is not available on standby so it crashes while trying to accessin
MBCV checkpointing.
In this case standby amfd could not read it from IMM as it was deleted
before that.
 4) Active amfd also crashes, while trying to do nodefailover of SC-2 as it
does not find NoRed SI.

Since it is related to timing, reproduced by preparing a patch to force AMFD to
assign NoRed SI in between completed and apply callback. Attached are amfd
traces and bts from both the controllers and also the repr.patch.

[tickets] [opensaf:tickets] #1833 amfnd: node director does not handle OM BAD_HANDLE

2016-05-17 Thread Gary Lee
I'm not sure yet. There are IMM calls in lots of places, and potentially any of
the IMM calls can return BAD_HANDLE.

Yes, You can initialize in the same thread, but you may get TRY_AGAIN or other
errors and may continue in the loop. But anyway, I just wanted to know the way
you want to solve it. May be we can send the patch, then we can talk.

[tickets] [opensaf:tickets] #1833 amfnd: node director does not handle OM BAD_HANDLE

2016-05-17 Thread Nagendra Kumar
Handling BAD_HANDLE is not implemented in IMM reader thread, it is mentioned in
the ticket #517. Now, since IMM reader is a separate thread, it is safe to
initialize it in the same thread for multiple times.

Unfortunately this is causing issues for us now. So I think it's important
enough to create its own ticket.

** [tickets:#1831] fm: Activation supervision is not started properly**

**Status:** fixed
**Milestone:** 5.0.1
**Created:** Mon May 16, 2016 01:49 PM UTC by Anders Widell
**Last Updated:** Mon May 16, 2016 02:28 PM UTC
**Owner:** Anders Widell

Two bugs have been discovered in the handling of the activation supervision
timer:

1) There is a cut-and-paste bug where the conditions are checking the status of
the promote active timer instead of the activation supervision timer
2) The timer is only started in the RDA callback, but not initially at startup
after reading the RDA role

[tickets] [opensaf:tickets] #1833 amfnd: node director does not handle OM BAD_HANDLE

2016-05-17 Thread Nagendra Kumar
It is one of the Action Item of #517:

So, after this patch, we need to work on the following work items in this
ticket:

Pushing Imm reading information in other flows of the code in the separate
thread created in the floated patch: This is not going to be easy as Amfnd
execution and Reading Imm goes together and segregating them into two flows are
not easy.
Handling of BAD_HANDLE in all the places as done in Amfd.
Handling of TIMEOUT in all the places as done in Amfd.
