Re: [Opensim-dev] voice meetings

2009-05-20 Thread Mark Malewski
The only obvious problem to voice for some of these conversations that if
you're not there at the time
 it happens you lose out.

Yeah, I agree with Mike on that. With e-mails at least we can have an
interactive discussion without missing out on anything.
Listening to a recorded MP3 (after the meeting is over) is like casting your
vote after the election has already been lost. Not much fun...

I'd at least like to see/hear what is going on, and the message lists are
the best way to foster communication (across all time zones) and get the
greatest amount of feedback.

Just my 2 cents...

   Mark

P.S. What is the status of Comms anyways? I would really love to see full
Skype Audio/Video/VoIP/Phone support added, as well as whiteboard support
added as well (if at all possible).

  freeswitch can record/stream MP3...

Of course there's a way around that. If you do a voice meeting just
publish notes from the discussion. That will help to foster
communication and increase the level of participation rather than be
exclusionary. In that scenarios its a win-win for everyone.

Again, I agree with Charles.
Would 8am PST work for everyone?

Name the time and the place. I still think the best thing to do is use the
message lists, to get the maximum amount of participation, but if we're
going to schedule a meeting please let the list know where and when (and
how).

So that we can attend. Are you talking about 8am PST as in 10 minutes from
now? If so, please let us know where the meeting is at, and how to attend.

Another thing we could do to improve the state of comms would be to have
voice meetings once in a while. I hate meetings as much as everyone
else, but voice meetings tend to be much faster than email discussions
back forth. Hey -- we could even use Freeswitch with a cool virtual
world system I know called OpenSim! :-)
I haven't tried installing it, but I can try to do it in one of the sims
 of the UCI Grid.
These would be meetings for core only.

As agenda for a possible first meeting to be held soon, I would propose
 - postmortem of the money issue process/action
 - pluginizing OpenSim servers
 - anything else anyone wants to bring up

I know we're all in different time zones, so I'm not sure a synchronous
 meeting is feasible.
