[osol-discuss] OpenSolaris Advocacy, one more time.

2010-03-07 Thread Rick N
From this:
http://www.oracle.com/us/sun/index.htm;
So, uh what about OpenSolaris ? , or even MySQL-it sure doesn't sound
like ORACLE wants to spend any development money helping this great Opensource
ALTERNATIVE Unix NetOS to compete against Linux/Windows/yada yada !!!???
-atleast according to that above link Oracle and Sun

What really irks me is that Oracle might very-well be in bed with IBM/RedHat
(RHEL) and their crappy GPL'd crufty ATM RedHat kernel ?
Do I really need that? -NO, but IBM and Banks do.
so, whooopee -and thanks for the security. (be careful now)

So who is really pulling the strings here ?

ya whatever, corporate back room BS.

Anyway, while Oracle/Sun is still fighting to achieve Sever superiority of
their database,..., against SAP,...,
just remeber, ORACKle, there are literally BILLIONS of Desktop users out
there too, waiting for the ultimate PC-Desktop Unix-friendly NetOS out there.
(besides' just Ubuntu or WinBlows)

When people buy a new car -you don't charge them for their transmission
optionally ?
Instead, charge them for QUALITY support if they need it, and you will find
you have adopted a VERY large family. (its all gotta work together though, duh.)

Isn't that whats it's really ALL about. ?

Gawd, you guys are dummies, -think, feel, and understand,... and it'll ALL
come together.

get it !?

cheers.

Rick.

[osol-discuss] Mail cron messages to email address

2010-03-07 Thread Harry Putnam
Is there a standard sort of way to make cron messages be mailed to an
email address?

crontab will not accept a mailto=s...@address.there

and /etc/default/cron appears to be limited to setting:
  PATH
and
  CRONLOG.

Bad analogy, I'm afraid.

Automatics are typically charged at a premium, over manuals (at least, over
here), where both models are available.

Flappy-paddle gearboxes come at a higher premium, still.

I stick with a 6-speed close-ratio manual, as it's what I like. I also have the
luxury of 400 ft/lb torque on tap, so if I'm feeling lazy, I can slot into 6th
at 30mph, and (admittedly, pretty much pessimally) treat my gearbox as an auto,
between 30mph and 180mph :-).

Cheers,

Hello Harry!

Is there a standard sort of way to make cron messages be mailed to an
 email address?

Not really. Here's what I do:

shelob:/home/volker,1268# crontab -l
#ident @(#)root 1.2104/03/23 SMI
#
# The root crontab should be used to perform accounting data collection.
#
[...]
#
# local additions:
10 4 * * * [ -x /root/bin/daily ] /root/bin/daily 21 | /usr/bin/mailx
-s Script 'daily' volker
10 5 * * 0 [ -x /root/bin/weekly ] /root/bin/weekly 21 | /usr/bin/mailx
-s Script 'weekly' volker
10 6 1 * * [ -x /root/bin/monthly ] /root/bin/monthly 21 | /usr/bin/mailx
-s Script 'monthly' volker

[osol-discuss] SIL0680 driver?

2010-03-07 Thread Martin Stein
I could use some help in making my SIL-680 board work under eon (or Opensolaris
in general). I can't find a driver and miss instructions on how to install it.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I could use some help in making my SIL-680 board work
under eon (or Opensolaris in general).

Does the card have a raid-mode jumper?
I think raid mode needs to be disabled.
Or is there a non-raid-mode firmware
available for the card?

Otherwise I think that a non-raid-mode
SIL-680 board should work with the standard
pci-ide / cmdk driver in p-ata mode.
