Re: [osol-discuss] Where is OpenSolaris 2010 release?

2010-07-19 Thread Sri
I agree with kebabber.

Solaris is the most common server operating system. When reliability,
predictability and uniform upgrades and support are required, sensible IT teams
always chose Solaris.

It is a known fact in the veteran community. Unfortunately, newbies and google
engineers do not seem to understand that. It's sad.

[osol-discuss] touchpad scroll and other

2009-04-07 Thread Sri Kon
I have installed and running Opensolaris 2008.11 on a Toshiba Tecra M5. I am
unable to get the following working yet.

1. Tochpad scroll
2. mplayer plugin to Firefox
3. Repository to download and install packages to play DVDs and MP3s

I was running Fedora 8 on the same laptop previously with all of the above.
I really want to get OpenSolaris running on this laptop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

[osol-discuss] configuration management choice - puppet Vs CFengine ?

2008-06-02 Thread sri
I am trying to implement configuration management tool for my organization who
has about 1500+ heterogeneous UNIX/LINUX systems. However, after some research,
I am trying to choose between puppet and cfengine. But, I am so confused which
one to go with. Can anyone who has experience on both tools share with me your
input on your selection and briefly explain why ?

Thanks,
Srikanth
