this is what I wrote pmpkg for: http://freshmeat.net/projects/pmpkg .
while it's still a package framework, it doesn't enforce any
dependencies, so as long as libraries are available, you can build the
package without any dependencies on pmpkg parts. vim7 is also included
(in editors/vim) and depends on SUNW* packages only in my build.

Cool! I'll check it out.

You definitely don't need the CBE to build vim 7. IIRC it simply built
out of the box with no problems. Just download it and try the usual
configure/make/make install cycle. Make sure your path
 include /usr/sfw/bin and /usr/ccs/bin.

This is correct, but using the JDS CBE does the download, checks for
 dependent packages,
compiles the source, builds a Solaris package, and installs it (Assuming
 the spec file is correct).
 All from one command.

Hi Doug,

I have SXDE. Does that mean the build env is already set up on my box?

 Hi All,

I wanted to use GVIM 7.0 with GTK.
I use SXDE and I note that gvim 6.3 is present in
 /opt/SUNWspro/contrib/vim/

 But:

 1) It's version 6.3
 2) It is compiled with xlibs, not with GTK , making
 it look very ugly.

Has anyone compiled GVIM 7.0 with GTK on SXDE/SXCE ?

You can find the a pkgbuild specfile for vim 7.0 at
 https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pkgbuild/spec-files-extra/trunk/SFEvim.spec

You will need to install the JDS Common Build Environment to build it. The
instructions can be found a the JDS project page -
 http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/jds/contributing/building/

 Doug

If yes is there a package available that uses the
 native libraries (as
 opposed to Blastwave)

If no, I would sure like to try to build a .pkg, that
 if one would add
with a simple pkgadd -d blan would give him/her
 this lovely editor :)

 Thanks

Unfortunately no. You will have to download and install the JDS CBE from
the JDS download area.

   http://dlc.sun.com/osol/jds/downloads/cbe/

Once you has the CBE installed you can check out the spec-files-extra
repository and build vim
   svn co
https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pkgbuild/spec-files-extra/trunk
spec-files-extra

   cd spec-files-extra
   pkgtool build --download SFEvim.spec

spec-files-extra has build spec files for a lot of useful software.

Good luck...

Sure. CBE is a good thing. However in some situations it can be
overkill. Solaris nevda/express contains all of the necessary
dependencies already - IMO the quickest/easiest way to vim happiness is
to download, make, make install.
