Re: [osol-help] snv_b81 cannot find install software exiting to shell

2008-01-31 Thread Roman Morokutti
I do also encounter problems with b81. I downloaded it yesterday
and burned it. Before I checked the md5 sums, all were ok. So I
started a new install and after the initial steps with the interactive
installer the final installation went wrong.

As I looked into the install log I saw many entries where the directory
has not been found (/a/var/...). I even do not know if this directory
exists at all, but I am quiet sure that the install process is a kind of
broken.

Hope that the subsequent versions go more well.

Re: [osol-help] snv_b81 cannot find install software exiting to shell

2008-01-31 Thread Lars Tunkrans
Did this work before on this machine ?

Lots of people have reported that when you run a PC with an Nforce
chipset and
load the nv-sata driver and try to run the sata dvd-unit in Native mode (
i.e. not in
ide emulation mode ) the sata dvd wont work.

 My understanding is that
when you first boot from the sata dvd its using ide-emulation-mode
to create the RAM disk that the installer runs from .

then when the NV-SATA driver is activated it cant handle the sata-dvd.

[osol-help] upgrade 78 to 81 with problems - help needed with Gnome startup

2008-01-31 Thread Uwe Dippel
Made the straightforward upgrade from 78 to 81; after nobody yelling about
problems with 81.
I do have some; in short: Gnome seems to kill X and get me back to the login
applet.

Okay: upgrade went through without any warnings or errors. Reboot. kernel
dumped and restarted; this time okay.
Next was
... svc.startd[7] system/wsconsole:console failed fatally: transitioned to
maintenance

Then I had the problem encountered earlier, with X being killed after the logon
to Gnome. Last time, changing the NVIDIA driver back to the one of nv70 solved
the problem, here it doesn't.

Went through a lot of steps, and ended uninstalling the NVIDIA-driver
completely. Then I removed the xorg.conf and restarted, after having created a
new user account.
Now what happens is, that as soon as the user logs on, either myself or that
user with a very fresh account (rm -Rf */rm -Rf .* in the account), as soon as
Gnome starts, CPU is used for a few seconds 100%, and then X is killed, and the
logon applet shows again.
X is run with "nv", the log does not indicated any problems. It leaves a core
in the user account. When the new, fresh, user starts and decides for CDE,
everything is okay and CDE comes up properly. The only thing not working is
firefox, it dumps as well. But this might have to do with CDE?

Now I wonder what makes Gnome (?) / X(?) core in an empty user account, just as
well as in mine. It seems to have to do with Gnome, since CDE starts properly.

I have tried no xorg.conf as well as one created with '/usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg
-configure'. Both expose the same problem.

I can confirm, that emptying the user account completely, rebooting, and
selecting Gnome will kill X here and get the user back to the logon applet.

Any hint appreciated,

Uwe

[osol-help] Configure OpenGrok to index Subversion

2008-01-31 Thread Greco One
I am very new to subversion and opengrok and I need some help in configuring
openGrok to index my subversion repository. I have configured Subversion with
apache and now I have configured OpenGrok using Tomcat and I have been able to
index a directory on my machine and opengrok works great, but I have not been
able to figure out how to index the subversion database.

What should be the value set for SRC_ROOT in web.xml?
What should be the SRC_ROOT in the opengrok/run.bat file to build the index? I
tried setting it to the subversion repository URL, but that did not work.
Also does SCAN_REPOS do, I have it set to true but did not seem to have made a
difference.
Thanks

Re: [osol-help] How to configure internet adsl

2008-01-31 Thread Lars Tunkrans
Hi,

Are you connecting this ADSL modem to an Ethernet port on the PC ?
What CHIPSET is used For the Ethernet port. ( intel ? , Marvell ? ,
Nvidia ? realtek ? )

Does solaris see the Ethernet port ?

/usr/X11/bin/scanpcishould report an Ethernet Device if Solaris does
recognise it.

Did you get any questions on Networking During Install ?
If you did not get networking questions , you may have an unsupported
Ethernet chip in your PC.

 If you run

 /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig

The system will reboot and you will be asked all the networking questions
again
If Solaris does find a supported chipset.

There is about a dozen unsupported networkdrivers here:

[osol-help] new install

2008-01-31 Thread m jordan
I installed the free community edition of open solaris 10.
I find open suse linux easier to install, use, update.
My wireless card will require days to get going because it's a broadcom 4306.
This whole release seems geared more to engineers rather than new users-
Then I went on the journey of trying to download/install the developer
edition-this is not user friendly in any way.
It's not for me-thanks

Just a side Note here:

As most Audio and Video formats are Commercial or Patended. Its almost
impossible to include players for these media types in Free Software. Since
there is no money being exchanged to pay the patent holder.

There are of course working software available, Mplayer - comes to mind,

That what I have too. So normally all has been loaded without problems.

> Is that a good sign?

The kernel and the miniroot have been successfully loaded. So, if my
conclusions are right, the problem is occurring between the call to boot_func()
in GRUB and the call to startup_kernel() in dboot_grub.s. My problem is that
there is, to my knowledge, no parameter that can be passed on the command line
to activate debugging logs between these two calls. The one we used
(prom_debug) activate debugging logs in startup_kernel() which apparently is
not called.

Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Re: [osol-help] Drive formating.

2008-01-31 Thread Aaron
As already mentioned, your D and E are logical drives on a single DOS-style
extended partition.

You may be able to perform some tricks in qparted to make this work.
First you need to download a Linux bootable CD containing qparted. I have a
version which boots from a USB flash drive --- sorry I can't remember it's
name. Just google it and you will find something.

After booting from the CD/Flash, run qparted and see what it can do. What you
want to do is delete the E: logical partition from inside the extended
partition, then resize the extended partition so that it is only just big
enough for the D: logical partion (which you will not modify). After the
resize, you will have some empty space to create a new Primary parition. It is
on that new partition that you can install Solaris.

Back up your data before doing this. I have successfully resized partitions
(and filesystems) containing data using qparted, but I would not have trusted
it with anything I wasn't willing to lose.

If the second is the case, what you can do is simple, you can install solaris

Re: [osol-help] shell related files

Hi,

If you want to know if files belongs to a package, you can do:

cat /var/sadm/install/contents |grep

there is another way to do that, but I can't remember which.

I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for ... but in you want to
know where you profiles are loaded it can be in several places:

/etc/profile
~/.profile

[osol-help] pull the source from mercurial repository

2008-01-31 Thread vinay simha bn
i used these command to pull the source from ON Mercurial repository by

#hg clone ssh://anon at hg dot opensolaris dot org/hg/onnv/onnv-gate

it had been 9 hours the shell prompt shows..

destination directory: onnv-gate
requesting all changes
adding changesets
adding manifests
adding file changes

how many hours need to pull the source from ON Mercurial repository...only
onnv-gate folder is created in / directory.. it had been 9 hours there are
no files are created in onnv-gate,when files are created in this directory.
