What do you intend doing with the drives?

If they are for a ZFS pool, you don't have to do anything with format.

2008-04-29 Thread heather valentine
hi

i am quite new to ZFS and UFS
But from what i hear i would like to format
at least two of my drives on my machine here.

i got as far as the format command and i really dont know
where to go from there and i did search te web and did not
find exactly what i needed to know.

If someone can help me with a step by step i would be quite happy

i have at least 3 drives on here that are all in NTFS format
one of them using the NTFS tool i installed

The other two are empty and i want to format them both
i have 2 gigs of ram on my machine

[osol-help] Possible Missing Package for CP1252 Character Set for gnome-pilot

2008-04-29 Thread Joe Cicardo
Hi,

I installed OpenSolaris Developer Preview 2. I tried to configure gnome-pilot
to sync my PDA and got the following error:

`CP1252' is not a valid character set identifier. Please enter a valid
identifier or select from the available options.

I think I'm missing a package. Anyone know what it would be?

Thanks,

Joe Cicardo

[osol-help] Firefox3 beta fonts look awful

2008-04-29 Thread Akhilesh Mritunjai
Hi

I'm (trying to) run firefox 3 beta 5 here on snv84, and the fonts look
*terrible*. It seems as if antialiasing and/or hinting has "gone nuts".

I found a thread (http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=189983)
which discusses this problem but there is no solution as such.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks
- Akhilesh

Re: [osol-help] Error message Fatal error, resetting interface, flg 1

2008-04-29 Thread atul
server received a "Fatal error, resetting interface, flg 1" alarm, and server
was generating SCSI errors, see below. Fujitsu was contacted and stated:
The SCSI card has duel jobs: 1) the card is communicating to the disks which is
working fine and; 2) it is communicating to something else that is having the
problem. They do not know what else it is communicating to. They do think
this is hardware related. Also, the console stopped showing the SCSI messages
about an hour after the case was generated. Fujitsu recommends:1) Find out
what qus3 is attached to;2) Find out if qus3 is terminated;3) Find out
what was happening around 7:00 AM - was something being moved around? Any
changes being made?

I have looked but was unable to find any thing.

[osol-help] Force hostid

2008-04-29 Thread Lara Matthews
Hi

Does anyone know how I can force a hostid onto a guest LDOM?

I have set the mac address on the LDOM but at the banner output it shows a
completly different MAC address and hostid.

Any thoughts on how I can force the hostid to be created from the mac address I
have assigned to the LDOM.

Many thanks

Lara
