[osol-help] lucreate fails with a strange error

2010-07-15 Thread Maurilio Longo
Hi,

I'm trying to update a SXCE server running build 124 to build 30, but when I
issue

# lucreate -x /nas -c snv_124 -n snv_130 -m /:c1t0d0s0:ufs

(the -x /nas was a shot in the dark by me, but makes no difference and the
error is the same with or without it) I get this

So it cannot unmount that /.alt.snv_130 mount point which it creates, what can
it be? Is there a way to have it complete the creation of the new BE ?

Thanks.

CPU can be a problem
on a AMD cpu system i tried installing opensolaris 2009.06 and b134 but
during boot my screen would get flooded with error and i was not able to
install it:

apic error interrupt on cpu 0 status 0 = 0, status 1 =4

i had to file a bug report and with help from kerry shu and others, we were
able to determined my AMD athlon 2 x2 240 had a bug known errata #373 of
AMD Family 10h Processors that it only affected solaris, so now i only buy
intel and no more problems

Re: [osol-help] Creating local repository

2010-07-15 Thread Ben
Not that it answers the errors in your problems, but I've used this method to
get a local repository (osol 2009.06):
http://blogs.sun.com/observatory/entry/local_repository_mirror

It works nicely on my home server.

Re: [osol-help] Creating local repository

2010-07-15 Thread Jim Mills
Yeah, the page you listed used pretty much the same procedure to create the
depot. My script automatically populates the depot... unfortunately, the
install fails.

Instead of spending any additional time on this issue, I created an ISO image
with all the required packages using SUNWdistro-const, so I no longer need a
local repository.

Any hint ?

About a year ago when I received a Solaris Live CD the same thing
happened on my ThinkPad. Also with OpenSolaris more recently.
No fix that I can think of as it never makes it past the first line
you mentioned. I suspect a BIOS issue.
BTW, you didn't say what Lenovo you're using.

You can check forums.thinkpad.com or thinkwiki.org.

Google for opensolaris and thinkpad (or lenovo) and you'll find
some success stories (even on a lowly T23).

My ThinkPad is probably too old and slow for Solaris but it happily
runs Slackware and KDE anyway.

Oh, I don't know why I didn't think of suggesting this before.

Try going into BIOS and changing your SATA controller from AHCI to ATA or
Legacy. The performance of AHCI is better, but if it doesn't work, it
doesn't work. (Zero performance is worse than 99% performance.) Look for
other things where possibly some new hardware could possibly require a
driver that maybe wasn't already built-in to the OS by default.
