There is no option in my BIOS to disable the mouse. I tried unplugging the
mouse, then the system hanged right before the mouse message. It said something
similar to the "mouse80420 is..." message. I tried unplugging both the mouse
and keyboard and it still froze.

Hi,

A friend of mine had that exact problem.
The workaround was to disable internal mouse in the BIOS.
After installation he re-enable the internal mouse and the problem hasn't been
seen again.

Since it seems that there is no current solution for this problem, I am going
to file a bug report with OpenSolaris and with Sun.

Re: [osol-help] Solaris + 2 video cards

2008-05-21 Thread Billy
Thanks ether.pt. I followed your instructions, and these are the results:

With NVidia FX 5200 inserted in computer and set as main video controller:

1. The last message displayed before the system hangs and the keyboard
becomes unusable etc. is ---> "mouse80420 is /isa/[EMAIL PROTECTED],60/[EMAIL
PROTECTED]"

2. Both when using the verbose option, and when booting normally, once the
system hangs, there is a blinking cursor that sometimes quickly moves from one
side of the screen to the opposite side.

3. When not booting with the verbose option, the only thing displayed on screen
is the copyright notice and the blinking cursor described above.

4. Both with and without verbose option, there is a slight amount of disk
activity after the system hangs that lasts for about 30 seconds

I also took out the NVidia and put in my ATI Radeon 9250 and got these results:

1. When booting from the hard drive, Solaris almost successively boots. The
last message displayed before the system hangs is > "WARNING: /[EMAIL
PROTECTED],0/[EMAIL PROTECTED],1/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (ata1): timeout: reset bus,
target=1 lun=0"

2. When booting from the install DVD, the same thing happens as with the
NVidia, with the computer hanging with the "mouse80420..." message.

As far as booting via serial interface, I don't believe that I have the
hardware necessary to do that.

Re: [osol-help] Solaris + 2 video cards

Hi,

Have you checked with -v where it stops?
Have you tried to have a monitor connected to the nvidia cards?

For example if we have serial redirection, usually you'll see the banner and
afterwards nothing else on screen until it gets to GUI.

Since I don't know the order of device probing in your specific board, I would
try the following:

1. edit grub entry and add -v to the kernel line.
2. attach the monitor to the nvidia card and check if anything happens.
3. try to boot it with serial interface instead of screen and monitor.

Hope it helps

[osol-help] Solaris + 2 video cards

2008-05-20 Thread Billy
Hello!
I was wondering how to use Solaris/OpenSolaris with 2 video cards. I have an
integrated Intel 845 graphics card and a NVidia FX 5200 256mb PCI video card.
Both Solaris 10 Express Developer Edition and OpenSolaris 2008.05 refuse to
boot with the NVidia card inserted in the computer. It starts to load, gets to
the point where it says SunOS 5.11 and some copyright information at the top of
the screen, and then the computer hangs (keyboard won't function etc). Even if
the computer is set to use the integrated card, but with the NVidia still
inserted, the computer still hangs. I also have an ATI Radeon 9250 256mb PCI
laying around. I replaced the NVidia with the ATI, and the same thing happens,
except, that the computer doesn't hang if the video card is set to integrated.
Is there a known workaround or plans to fix this in future versions?
Also, thanks for taking the time to read my long post. Thanks for your help.

If it helps, these are my computer specifications:
Mainboard: Intel Desktop Board 845GVSR
RAM: 1.5 GB
Hard Drive(s): 1 80GB Maxtor Hard-Drive
1 250GB Western Digital Hard-Drive
CD/DVD ROM Drive(s): 1 Sony CDRW Drive
1 LiteOn DVD ROM Drive
Floppy Drive(s): 1 (Sony?) Floppy Drive
Sound: Integrated Intel Realtek AC 97
Video card(s): 1 Integrated Intel 845GVSR graphics processor (Intel Extreme
Graphics 1)
1 PNY NVidia GeForce FX 5200 256MB PCI
Network Card: 1 Integrated Intel Pro 10/100 LAN
Processor: 1 Intel Celeron D 2.54 GHz
Operating Systems:
(when only using integrated graphics) Solaris 10 Express Developer Edition
Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Evaluation Version
