 Quantum Multi-host DHCP and L3
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/quantum/+spec/quantum-multihost

Yes. At the moment the network node is the bottleneck. There is a patch
upstream in review that will solve this issue:

https://review.openstack.org/#/c/18216/

Hopefully this will be ready in the Grizzly cycle.

In addition to this it also provides HA for the L3 and DHCP agents.
Thanks

[Openstack] Multinic issue (essex)

2013-01-23 Thread Jesús Moreno
Hi,

I'm trying to use multinic to create a scenario with two instances: Client
(with one network interface) and Router (with two interfaces):

Client(10.0.14.5) (10.0.14.9)Router(10.0.2.9)

I have modified the gateway in Client routing table, setting Router as the
new gateway, and activated ip_forward in Router. However, when I ping
10.0.2.9 from Client I get no reply. Capturing the traffic with tcpdump I
have checked that Router gets echo requests packets and that Router sends
echo replys, but then they get lost somewhere, as I have captured the
traffic in the computation nodes bridges and the echo reply packets don't
appear. I guess that it could be a problem related with Vlans. Any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
J. Moreno.

[Openstack] Possible to have local storage to the node and shared at the same time?

2013-01-23 Thread zebra z zebra
Hi.

I'm experimenting with some odd fundamental ideas about storage currently
for my deployment.

Earlier on this list, we were discussing a way to pin or segregate certain
instances to certain node types. There appears to be a quite neat way to do
this using a filter-scheduler configuration and a prefix on the nodes
themselves.

If we take it a step further, I'd like to know if there is a way we can run
instances that use local-to-the-node disk storage for boot and shared
storage for the vm stores at the same time. I know it's an odd question that
might be missing some logic somewhere.

What I'm trying to achieve is an availability requirement in different
modalities and different scalability requirements with the same
infrastructure, in terms of the storage used.

Thanks.

[Openstack] Windows instance licensing in OpenStack

2013-01-23 Thread Balamurugan V G
Hi,

I wonder how the Windows Licensing would work in OpenStack. Lets say I have
a Windows Image which I have already activated. Now if I launch N instances
of this image, what are the SO licensing implications? Will I have to
license/re-activate on each of the instances after they boot up?

If you use XenServer or KVM, I believe so, yes. I've heard that if you
use ESXi you can get some sort of license for all Windows images on a
host. Not sure of the details of this, though, I've just heard it
through the IT grapevine...

[Openstack] Ubuntu Grizzly packages for 12.10

2013-01-23 Thread Blair Zajac
I noticed that Grizzly-2 is in 13.04. I'd like to run them in 12.10 and not
update the entire OS.

What's the best and/or easiest way of doing this?

1) Get the source packages and build them in a PPA? If so, what is the
complete list of source packages and build order to do this correctly?

2) Temporarily update sources.list to use raring, upgrade or install any
packages with 2012 in the version number.

With either approach, are there new dependencies upon non-OpenStack packages
that are required?

Thanks,

Hi all,

I took a look to the Nova blueprint [1] and I noticed that it depends on a

This blueprint [2] was created April 2012. Quantum is now able to

Can we obsoleted the Quantum blueprint [2] ?

Thanks for the link. It appears that my case is not explicitly supported,
running Folsom on 12.10 is only supported. I'll take a look when I'm on my

possible to point my 12.10 system at the 12.04 repo and it should just work

I am no MS licensing expert, however. Here is my understanding of it.

If you are using a windows vm on a hypervisor other than windows server with
the Hyper-V role enabled you need to license per vm.

If you are using windows server with Hyper-V enable you can license at the
hypervisor/server rather than at the vm level.

This does not include Hyper-V server, which only requires licensing of the
windows guests.

Re: [Openstack] Instances and ARP

2013-01-23 Thread Joe Warren-Meeks
Hi all,

Thanks to Belmiro, I found how to fix this properly, rather than a hack.

For future googlers,

cd /etc/libvirt/nwfilter
cp nova-base.xml nova-base.xml.bak
virsh nwfilter-edit nova-base
remove or comment out the spoof lines you don't want

New instances won't have the rules.

To update old instances:
virsh destroy instance-xxx
virsh undefine instance-xxx
cd /var/lib/nova/instances/instance-xxx
virsh define libvirt.xml
virsh start instance-xxx

Thanks all.

Looks like KMS would be the appropriate means; your MSFT reseller would sell

[Openstack] Folsom with Quantum on RHEL6.3

2013-01-23 Thread mohammad kashif
Hi

I have a running Essex OpenStack cluster on Ubuntu with multi host network
set up. Floating IP etc is working. I am planning to install same kind of
setup with Folsom on RHEL 6.3 and quantum. I have some questions

Most of the documents are mentioning quantum server with other nova
services and a separate network server running dhcp agent and L2/L3 agents.
Considering that I have a decent server, is it OK to merge all the services
except compute node on same machine?

If I want to support floating IP, do I have to install L3 agent on
controller/network node?

Is it necessary to have a separate data and management network ? I am not
expecting a lot of data crossing the network initially.

I am planning to use RHEL6.3, any thought about it.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers
Kashif

Re: [Openstack] Tenant Isolation - Virtualbox

2013-01-23 Thread Vishvananda Ishaya
There is nothing wrong with your setup. L3 routing is done by the network node.
L3 is already blocked by security groups. The vlans provide L2 isolation.
Essentially we handle this with convention, as in tell your tenants not to open
up their firewalls if they don't want to be accessed by other tenants.

for example:

nova secgroup-add-rule default tcp 22 22 192.168.0.0/24 # or some other
restricted range

instead of:

nova secgroup-add-rule default tcp 22 22 0.0.0.0/0

People seem to expect l3 traffic to be totally blocked between tenants. I'm not
totally convinced that is good behavior, but it should be possible to produce a
patch that will do this. In fact I've put together a potential version here:

https://review.openstack.org/#/c/20362/

Unless I've messed something up, with this patch, you should be able to set:

bridge_forward_inteface=xxx # where xxx is your public_interface

And get the behavior you expect.

Not sure how you installed, but you need to make sure the PKI provisioning
is done. You can do it by hand with the keystone_manage command. Make
sure you run it as the user that Keystone is going to run as, as it creates
the certificates and Keystone (ajnd only Keystone) needs to be able to
 access those.

Re: [Openstack] Folsom with Quantum on RHEL6.3

Hi

questions

Most of the documents are mentioning quantum server with other nova
services and a separate network server running dhcp agent and L2/L3
agents. Considering that I have a decent server, is it OK to merge all
the services except compute node on same machine?

There are a number of different deployment options. The ideal setup
would be something like:

http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-network/admin/content/connectivity.html

If I want to support floating IP, do I have to install L3 agent on
controller/network node?

I would suggest having this on a network node. At the moment there is
not support to run multiple L3 agents on compute nodes. We are currently
working on a solution for this. Please note that there is no multi host
support for Quantum at the moment.

Is it necessary to have a separate data and management network ? I am
not expecting a lot of data crossing the network initially.

This is totally up to you. I would suggest having two different networks.

I am planning to use RHEL6.3, any thought about it.

RHEL6.3 could be supported by EPEL or through the preview at
redhat.com/openstack

Thanks for any help.

2013-01-23 Thread Jesús Moreno
Hi,

I followed this instructions:
http://docs.openstack.org/essex/openstack-compute/admin/content/using-multi-nics.html

As I had already created the networks (nova-manage network create), I just
had to modify one of them to attach the second network to this project
(nova-manage network modify). This way, every instance of this project gets
two IP addresses. As the images were created with one nic, after booting I
have to edit /etc/netwirk/interfaces in order to add the second interface.
