[Openstack] how to get version information

2013-01-28 Thread Ajiva Fan
hello everyone,
i'm wondering if there is any rest api for componnets' version info.

i read the http://api.openstack.org/api-ref.html and find:
1) keystone truly have a rest api for version info:
# curl http://127.0.0.1:5000/v2.0/
{version: {status: beta, updated: 2011-11-19T00:00:00Z,...
2) nova says it has, but sadly it does not work for essex
# curl -H X-Auth-Token:token-for-admin-tenant http://127.0.0.1:8774/v2
Authentication required
# curl -H X-Auth-Token:token-for-admin-tenant http://127.0.0.1:8774/v2.0/
{choices: [{status: CURRENT,
so the document may point to folsom, and essex has little difference.

there seems no rest api for glance and horizon, and no CLI for nova
and horizon while CLI has glance --version and nova-manage version

so my question is:
1) is there any rest api for query components' version info in essex
and folsom (beside keystone)?
2) if not, will it be implemented in future?

thanks for any help.

[Openstack] [keystone] Encryption based user authentication in keystone

2013-01-28 Thread Koert van der Veer
I vaguely remember some chatter on the last summit about using something
other than passwords for user authentication in keystone. However,
looking at the sourcecode and blueprints I can't seem to find this
feature. I see a lot of encryption-based in tokens, but not between the
end-user and keystone.

Are there any plans in that direction, or should I be rolling my own
solution?

Hi,

The image that you are uploading, Is it fedora or ubuntu image ?

One thing you can try is setting notifier_strategy = noop in
/etc/glance/glance-api.conf

How can I undo the changes that was made by the script?

[Openstack] Using durable queues

2013-01-28 Thread Day, Phil
Hi Folks,

I'm trying to understand the configuration required to create a durable
notification queue for billing with RabbitMQ. As I understand it for messages
to be durable there need to be three things:

- The exchange has to be created as durable

- The queue needs to be created as durable

- Messages themselves need to be marked as durable when they are
published.

I can see that setting rabbit_durable_queues=True would create the exchange and
notification publisher with the options required for me to create a durable
queue for a billing system, but I thought there was a concern in having durable
queues in general within Nova because if the consumer fails and recovers it may
receive the same message multiple times - so is there some magic in the system
which prevents all of the other topic queues from becoming durable when this
option is set (or is there no problem with durable queues in general) ?

Cheers,
Phil

Re: [Openstack] [keystone] Encryption based user authentication in keystone

2013-01-28 Thread Yee, Guang
Only password and token authentications are natively supported (by default)
at the moment. There are also signature-based authentication APIs like ec2
and s3 available as extensions. Other mechanisms such as two-way SSL and
external authentication via a web frontend is also possible?

In v3, we should like to introduce authn plugin capability as well. Do you
want to share your use case so we can discuss possible solutions?

[Openstack] Metadata server unreachable and can't passwordless login to instance

2013-01-28 Thread Rain Li
Hi all,

I want to know if this bug has been fixed or not.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/719798. When starting an instance, I
still get this error:

cloud-setup: checking
http://169.254.169.254/2009-04-04/meta-data/instance-id
wget: can't connect to remote host (169.254.169.254): Network is unreachable
cloud-setup: failed 1/30: up 10.57. request failed

But I have route table like this:
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse
Iface
0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG0 00 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth0
172.24.17.0 192.168.1.130 255.255.255.0 UG0 00
br-ex
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 00 eth0
192.168.1.128 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.128 U 0 00
br-ex
192.168.122.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 00
virbr0

And I think maybe because of this error, I can't login to the instance via
password-less method with the following command:
ssh -i admin.pem -l cirros 192.168.1.131
I already change the permission property of admin.pem, and it asks the
password again.

Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks.

Regards,
Rain Lee

[Openstack] Disk Recommendation - OpenStack Swift

2013-01-28 Thread John van Ommen
Does anyone on the list have a disk they'd recommend for OpenStack swift?

I am looking at hardware from Dell and HP, and I've found that the
disks they offer are very expensive. For instance, HP's 2TB disk has
a MSRP of over $500, while you can get a Western Digital 2TB 'Red'
disk for $127.

Is there any reason to opt for the drives offered by Dell or HP? (I
assume they're re-branded disks from Seagate and WD anyways.)

Are there any disk SKUs that you'd recommend?
