[Openstack] Quantum - can't reach VMs, VMs can't reach metadata

2013-02-01 Thread Evan Todd
Setup:

- Deployed with Juju
- Folsom
- Three nodes, all on the same network:
 - Quantum gateway running GRE tunnels (default supported by juju charm)
 - Cloud controller
 - Compute

The gateway has another interface to a public network.

I created a private logical network in quantum and booted a VM in it. I
added SSH and ping rules to the security group. From the quantum gateway
(or anywhere else), I can't ping it. Also, the VM log shows that it gets
the correct IP address.

ci-info: lo: 1 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 .

ci-info: eth0 : 1 10.0.0.3255.255.255.0 fa:16:3e:f0:bf:72

ci-info: route-0: 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.10.0.0.0 eth0 UG

ci-info: route-1: 10.0.0.00.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 eth0 U

I also hadn't set up the metadata service yet since the juju charm
doesn't install it. I tried installing it on the cloud controller and
configuring the metadata_host on the quantum gateway to point to it. I
still can't ping 169.254.169.254 from anywhere. Should that go on the
quantum gateway itself instead?

Thanks.

Hi all again:

Finally I got dump logs to file 'console.log'.
It needed to add 'console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200' to kernel line in

2013/1/30 JuanFra Rodriguez Cardoso juanfra.rodriguez.card...@gmail.com

 Hi all:

I've tested default image 'cirros' and instance logging works fine.
However, I need to add some script to /etc/rc3.d/ in my instance (CentOS).
Does anyone know how to redirect initial logs to file console.log?

 Thanks,
 JuanFra

 ---

 Hi Guys,

I have a question concerning the instance console log.

Do I have to prepare an image in any way to see content in the file *
console.log* (or in horizon: instance console log)??

I have a standard centos6.2 image and I always have an empty file (*
 console.log*)

 Thanks in advance

 Viktor

Hi JuanFra,

Thanks for this hint. I was facing the same issue and this solves it :-)

I've tested it on a Debian wheezy image with grub2, so there is a
slight difference:

Line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200
File:
/etc/default/grub

# update-grub

And console.log appears in next boot

Re: [Openstack] openvswitch rpm on RHEL 6.3 frustration

2013-02-01 Thread Greg Chavez
Ken'ichi, thank you again. You actually had the answer to my problem in
your first reply, but I did not listen.

If you install openvswitch first, it fails dependency checking looking for
openvswitch-kmod. However, if you install kmod-openvswitch *first*,
the dependency checks for the openvswitch rpm passes somehow.

The vagaries of rpms. If I had time, I'd crack open these rpms and see how
this was possible. Clearly it's not as simple as checking the name of the
rpm.

Re: [Openstack] Quantum - can't reach VMs, VMs can't reach metadata

2013-02-01 Thread Richard Whitney
Evan,

Where are you pinging from? Displaying the ifconfig -a output on all nodes
could be useful.

The gateway has another interface to a public network.

I created a private logical network in quantum and booted a VM in it. I
added SSH and ping rules to the security group. From the quantum gateway
(or anywhere else), I can't ping it. Also, the VM log shows that it gets
 the correct IP address.

I also hadn't set up the metadata service yet since the juju charm doesn't
install it. I tried installing it on the cloud controller and configuring the
metadata_host on the quantum gateway to point to it. I still can't ping
169.254.169.254 from anywhere. Should that go on the quantum gateway itself
 instead?

 Thanks.

In the time since the Folsom release, the maintainer of OpenStack stable
branch have been busy selectively back-porting bugfixes to the
*stable*/folsom branch according to our “safe source of high-impact
fixes” criteria http://wiki.openstack.org/StableBranch. These releases
are bugfix updates to Folsom and are intended to be relatively risk free
with no intentional regressions or API changes. Read the full Release

ftp-cloudfs is a proxy service that can be used to access to the object
storage with any regular FTP client. The project is mature now and it’s
in production at Memset and other cloud storage providers. Sftp-cloudfs
offers similar abstraction but for the SFTP. The code is on github for

Re: [Openstack] netns help

2013-02-01 Thread Salvatore Orlando
Hi Paras,

If your goal is to delete namespaces, have you tried the
quantum-netns-cleanup utility?

If the quantum network 20554b0b-dc5f-48c5-87fa-47b90dc9242f and the
quantum router 39d5fa21-c604-4d3b-a37b-90457c9b11fe have not beed
deleted it's unlikely however the namespaces will be deleted. The
presence of the qdhcp namespace does not necessarily imply the dhcp
server is running.

If yes, you'll see its interface in the namespace:

ip netns exec qdhcp-20554b0b-dc5f-48c5-87fa-47b90dc9242f ip link show

Salvatore

but I still see as :

 qdhcp-20554b0b-dc5f-48c5-87fa-47b90dc9242f

Does this mean dhcp is still being active?

  Hi Caitlin,

I need multiple ip address for my Haproxy server.

  Here is my senario

I have already running Haproxy Server virtual machine for web load
balancing on vSphare with 45 public ip address. We are running 45 diffrent
websites and we required diffrent ips for each webiste.

We have 6 webservers with only local ip address. These 6 webservers
holding all 45 websites. Haproxy just forward the request to local
 webservers accorindg to DNS.

You can associate multiple floating ips to a single instance. Floating ips
just create natting entries. Keep in mind that traffic that originates from
the server will only come from one of these ips. Also there is no way for
the server to determine which ip address the traffic came in on so you will
need to do the forwarding at the HTTP layer which has access to the domain
 name used for the request.

[Openstack] Single IP Pool and Multiple Tenant

2013-02-01 Thread Umar Draz
Hi All,

I have 3 Tenant (admin, rebel, penguin). Also have 3 different users for
these Tenants

I have /25 network pool from my datacenter. I have created my default pool
using this name

nova-manage floating create --pool mypool --ip_range 73.63.93.128/25

Now the problem is I can only see this pool in my admin user, rebel and
penguin user's vms are unable to see this floating pool.

I want this pool should be visible for all my tenant and I can allocate ip
from this pool to any virtual machine regardless of tenant, is this
possible?

Br.

[Openstack] Swift + Keystone integration problem

2013-02-01 Thread Andrey V. Romanchev
Hello!
I've installed swift + keystone and have incomprehensible problem

First of all I get auth tokens
curl -d '{auth: {tenantName: service,
passwordCredentials:{username: swift, password: swiftpass}}}' -H
Content-type: application/json http://host:5000/v2.0/tokens | python
-mjson.tool

This command works fine, I get token id and publicURL

Then
curl -H X-AUTH-TOKEN: cf1d44080a184e6c8f94e3fe52e89d48 http://
host:/v1/AUTH_b74d4d57b1f5473bb2d8ffe5110a3d5a

This command just hangs and that's all. No swift logs, no response.
If I restart proxy server, I get on client side
curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer

I've completely stuck here. I even turned on debug logs in swift-proxy - no
result as well.
Is there any possibility to understand what's wrong?

Re: [Openstack] Swift + Keystone integration problem

2013-02-01 Thread David Goetz
I'm sorry- I didn't read that part about the proxy restart :) The proxy may
not log if it gets hung up in some middleware. What middleware do you have
running? You can try adding in some log messages into the middleware you have
running to find out where.

Just for the record, 1 cinder volume that I created yesterday just

lvdisplay shows nothing, cinder-volumes is empty...

Can you guys imagine the cinder deleting my client's persistent storage

I'm glad that this is just a PoC.

Re: [Openstack] [OpenStack] DevStack setup on XenServer

2013-02-01 Thread Bob Ball
Hi Antonio,

That error is most likely due to the SRs not being set up correctly on
XenServer.

Could you check that you have an ext based SR as the pool default?

Use xe pool-param-get uuid=tabtab param-name=default-SR

Then check that against xe sr-list params=all

See http://support.citrix.com/article/ctx116324 for further details of this.

If that doesn't work, could you paste the outputs of sr-list?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Antonio,

I’m assuming that there really is enough free memory on the XS host? Could you
check with XenCenter or the following command line that XenServer knows there
is enough memory?
xe host-list params=memory-total,memory-free

It’s possible that this is related to dynamic memory allocation – from the log
file the devstack setup used the following:
xe vm-memory-limits-set static-min=16MiB static-max=1024MiB dynamic-min=1024MiB
dynamic-max=1024MiB uuid=e3975dab-c7a5-7490-02c6-988185a2c6f6

Try changing the static-min value to 1024 so dynamic memory allocation is ruled
out:
xe vm-memory-limits-set static-min=1024MiB static-max=1024MiB
dynamic-min=1024MiB dynamic-max=1024MiB

I have to install a devstack multinode using 3 nodes configured as follows:

1) Controller on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
2) Node Compute on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with KVM hypervisor
3) Node Compute on XenServer

While in first two points I am successful, the third point show me the

The following table provides per-host reasons for why the VM could not be
started:

How can I solve this problem?

If you update your nova code and and run everything you should be ok.

[Openstack] data network same as tenant network?

2013-02-01 Thread Mark A. Nye
Folks,

I'm working on building a pilot OpenStack cluster using the Basic
Installation Guide for Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 and I have a quick question
about Quantum networking configuration.

I have a 10.10.10.0/24 data network with interfaces configured for my
network node (10.10.10.1) and compute node (10.10.10.2) as specified. I'm
about the run the quantum-networking.sh script from the Virtual Networking
section of the Network Node documentation page, but I'm noticing the
following in the configuration:

TENANT_NAME=demo # The tenant this network is created for
TENANT_NETWORK_NAME=demo-net # The Quantum-internal network name
FIXED_RANGE=10.5.5.0/24 # The IP range for the private tenant network

For the sake of this documentation, is the tenant network the same as the
data network? In other words, for tunnel mode routing to work as
expected, should FIXED_RANGE be set to 10.10.10.0/24?

best,
Mark

Re: [Openstack] Single IP Pool and Multiple Tenant

2013-02-01 Thread Vishvananda Ishaya
Floating-ip-create is a user command that allocates a floating ip to a
tenant. It pulls it out of the pool so other tenants cannot use it.
Floating IPS are available for all projects. Any user can allocate an IP
and then associate it.

So this is not possible that create a dedicated floating ip pools that
share all tenant.

I have 128 ip pools and different tenant, I don't want a tenant hold the ip
even if its not needed. I want a central pool every tenant should acquire
the ip address from that pool.
