Guys,

 Here:
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-network/admin/content/demo_flat_installions.html

 ...at the step 1. Install the L2 agent. but, what is the name of the
Ubuntu package (I'm using Folsom)?

 ...apt-get install what?

 I thought that the Quantum L2 agent was the package
`quantum-plugin-linuxbridge' but, this doc uses OpenvSwitch... So, I'm
confused now...

 The following packages quantum-server
quantum-plugin-openvswitch quantum-plugin-openvswitch-agent
quantum-dhcp-agent will be enough for my `controller+network node'?

 At the compute-node, I'll install only the
quantum-plugin-openvswitch-agent, right?

Tks,
Thiago

 /etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings:

 It points to keystone IP which in my case is 192.168.105.61
 so I have edited it to one as seen below :-

 [root@] openstack-dashboard]# grep OPENSTACK_HOST local_settings
 OPENSTACK_HOST = 192.168.105.61
 OPENSTACK_KEYSTONE_URL = http://%s:5000/v2.0; % OPENSTACK_HOST

 It's pointing to the keystone.

  Is there are work around ?
 Around that additional config step? No! it's not required.

 I am now able to login to dashboard after restarting nova-* services.

Hi Sam,

I've been looking into this, and it seems that clouds.* was a new
subdomain which went live last night. Cloud-init was already prepared
to support this, but the new subdomain didn't support wildcard (where
wildcard is your declared region name).

This has now been resolved. Please let me know if you see any further

As you know Quantum uses plugins to realize the network abstractions. Some

 The following packages quantum-server quantum-plugin-openvswitch

Correct. That package should install the openvswitch and other dependencies.

That's exactly our goal, but I'm not sure that corresponding well-tested
policy.json changes will land in time for Grizzly (also not sure if there would
be any other supporting changes required).

Adding Brant as he specifically was investigating the same possibility in
Grizzly.

Hi,

While studying keystone v3 and domains feature, I realized that current
policy.json file has no domain_admin role as I was expecting. I wonder if this
role will be defined in Grizzly timeframe or how do you envision domain_admin
role enforcement.

Thanks in advance!

[Openstack] Announcing Elastic Hadoop on OpenStack project

2013-03-13 Thread Sergey Lukjanov
Hello community,

At Mirantis within our customer and partner base we see growing demand to
deploy and run Hadoop clusters on OpenStack cloud and manage them via an
OpenStack API.

The main goal of this initiative, codenamed EHO (Elastic Hadoop on

The key features are as follows:
* Open source;
* Native for OpenStack;

Re: [Openstack] [Openstack-operators] Help with simplest Quantum setup possible...

2013-03-13 Thread Martinx - ジェームズ
Thanks!!

I'm trying it right now...

At my `controller+network node' nova.conf file, I'm changing this:

# NETWORK - Nova Network
# network_manager = nova.network.manager.FlatDHCPManager
# force_dhcp_release = True
# dhcpbridge_flagfile = /etc/nova/nova.conf
# firewall_driver = nova.virt.libvirt.firewall.IptablesFirewallDriver
# # Change my_ip to match each host
# my_ip = 10.32.14.232
# public_interface = br100
# vlan_interface = eth0
# flat_network_bridge = br100
# flat_interface = eth0

Into this:

# NETWORK - QUANTUM
network_api_class=nova.network.quantumv2.api.API
quantum_url=http://controller:9696/
quantum_auth_strategy=keystone
quantum_admin_tenant_name=service
quantum_admin_username=quantum
quantum_admin_password=service_pass
quantum_admin_auth_url=http://controller:35357/v2.0/
libvirt_vif_driver=nova.virt.libvirt.vif.LibvirtHybridOVSBridgeDriver

But, here:
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-network/admin/content/demo_flat_installions.html-
they say to configure this at the nova.conf of the compute node... Do
I
need to write it on all nova.conf files across my cloud?

Also, do I need this (in nova.conf for Quantum):

linuxnet_interface_driver=nova.network.linux_net.LinuxOVSInterfaceDriver
firewall_driver=nova.virt.libvirt.firewall.IptablesFirewallDriver

.. or not???

I'm reading this two options from here:

  As you know Quantum uses plugins to realize the network abstractions.
 Some plugins (such as OVS) use an agent to collect information from the
 Quantum db to implement the logical data model on the local vswitch.

   The following packages quantum-server
 quantum-plugin-openvswitch quantum-plugin-openvswitch-agent
 quantum-dhcp-agent will be enough for my `controller+network node'?

 That should work for flat networking implementations.

   At the compute-node, I'll install only the
 quantum-plugin-openvswitch-agent, right?

 Correct. That package should install the openvswitch and other
 dependencies.

Hi Pranav,

What are you specifically interested in?

On the mentoring and project side, we need an ideas page better than what
we put together last year: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/GSoC2012/Ideas.
It didn't have enough details for Google to accept our application.

Thanks,
Anne

Re: [Openstack] Google Summer of Code

2013-03-13 Thread Pranav
Hi,
I don't know weather I'm qualified for being a mentor (ill be graduating
this summer). But I have my project which Ill be officially done with this
summer (Before Google summer code starts) and would love to know if its a
good idea and if I could take it further and make it more professional.
This can be a good start-up idea for Google Summer Code.

Here is the existing repository. I plan to implement a unique system for
backup, storage using GIT(PaaS and IaaS) and OpenStack(IaaS).
https://github.com/organizations/cloud-rack
Note: This project is work in progress and may have some mistakes.
Regards,
Pranav

[Openstack] [OpenStack] Images need to be stored in Glance or SWIFT?

2013-03-13 Thread Balamurugan V G
Hi,

The OpenStack Installation document at
http://docs.openstack.org/folsom/basic-install/content/ as well as the
guide at
https://github.com/mseknibilel/OpenStack-Folsom-Install-guide/blob/master/OpenStack_Folsom_Install_Guide_WebVersion.rst
 do not talk about installing SWIFT. And in my setup (going by the
install
guide in git), I see that the images are stored in Glance. How does SWIFT
come in to the picture, my understanding was that the Images will be stored
in SWIFT and Glance is a catalog only.

Can some one throw some light on how to use SWIFT? I need to create a multi
site storage for Images and SWIFT can perhaps help me with it.

Balu

Re: [Openstack] [OpenStack] Images need to be stored in Glance or SWIFT?

2013-03-13 Thread Balamurugan V G
Ok, got some info at
http://docs.openstack.org/diablo/openstack-image-service/admin/content/configuring-the-swift-storage-backend.html
.

Looks like Glance supports multiple storage backends (Filesystem storage
being the default) and it can be configured to use SWIFT. So then SWIFT is
a complementary project for OpenStack and not really an absolute
requirement!

Balu
