Re: [Openstack] Stackato and OPenStack as PAAS

2012-07-24 Thread Diane Mueller

Frans, Michael, and Matt,

Stackato is from ActiveState and you can find more information here
about running Stackato on OpenStack:

http://docs.stackato.com/server/openstack.html?highlight=openstack

Also, we're no longer beta and have been GA since 02/2012, and are now
at V2.0 of a commercially-supported release of Stackato.

We've been happily deploying and auto-scaling on multiple versions of
OpenStack since last October - including HP Cloud's OpenStack

You can get aces and test it out here:

http://www.activestate.com/stackato/get_stackato

I also just did a presentation at OSCON on Adventures deploying PaaS on
the OpenCloud with Jeff Hobbs, our CTO \

Re: [Openstack] Stackato and OPenStack as PAAS

2012-07-14 Thread Matt Ray
I think PaaSes should treat OpenStack much like running on top of EC2
or Rackspace or any other IaaS. They should try to be general agnostic
about the underlying infrastructure. I was glad to learn of Stackato,
it sounds like another open source PaaS to keep tabs on.

When you say PAAS implementation in OpenStack, that sounds like
OpenStack is adopting a PaaS solution. I don't believe there is any
intention to provide or adopt an existing PaaS to be part of
OpenStack. While there are many nice open source PaaSes out there, at
some point it makes sense to draw some boundaries for OpenStack and
on top of OpenStack.

Thanks,
