No. "physical storages" means storage products like EMC VNX, NetApp
Data ONTAP, HPE Lefthand and so on.
Say there is a new service named X to manage them. A user, he/she will
be a new IaaS admin, requests many baremetal servers to Ironic and
some baremetal storages to X. After they are provided, he/she will
start to build a new OpenStack deployment with them. Nova in the new
one will provide VMs on the servers and Cinder will manage logical
volumes on the storages. X doesn't manage each logical volume but
pools, user accounts and network connections of the storages.

"This licensing incompatibility applies only when some Apache project
software becomes a derivative work of some GPLv3 software, because then
the Apache software would have to be distributed under GPLv3. This would
be incompatible with ASF's requirement that all Apache software must be

We avoid GPLv3 software because merely linking to it is considered by

At the Ocata summit we held a design summit session covering several 
security-related specs from Dane Fichter and Peter Hamilton. The full

Dane was present and the majority of the discussion was on the cert 
validation spec:

Daniel Berrange has done the most review on the spec and was present to 
discuss some of the issues with the proposal. Ultimately there was 
agreement to have an incremental step forward and allow passing a list 
of certificate uuids when creating a server which would be used for 
signed image verification. The spec lays out several alternatives and 
options for improving on this later, but they are out of scope right now 
so we're starting small to address the main problem defined in the spec.


I missed some of the discussion in the room and there aren't many 
details in the etherpad, so if Dane or Daniel want to update the 
etherpad or expand on this thread that would be helpful.


I have reviewed the cert validation spec and added several questions and 
concerns around things like, how do we handle evacuate and migration 
when we don't persist the list of trusted cert IDs used to create the 
server? Discussion on that will continue in the spec.




The other thing we talked about during this session was the need for a 
CI job that can test a lot of the security-related features we already 
support, like signed image verification and using a real key manager 
like Barbican. The idea being before we add more features in this space 
we really need to start doing integration testing of the code we already 
have.


Dane Fichter has started working on some of this already. We shouldn't 
require any changes to Tempest as there are no API changes, but we need 
some work in devstack to configure it for signed images and using a real 
key manager. And then we need a new CI job defined which uses the 
Barbican devstack plugin to deploy Barbican and configure the other 
services like Nova and Glance to use it. I've volunteered to help work 
on pulling those CI job pieces together.

Amrith, is that list of projects defined anywhere? If not, it'd be good 
to start documenting that in the nova devref so that the nova team has 
an idea of which projects are using it and how they are using it.

Chris Friesen reported a bug [1] where injected files on a server aren't in the 
guest after it's evacuated to another compute host. This is because the 
injected files aren't persisted in the nova database at all. 
Evacuate and rebuild use similar code paths, but rebuild is a user operation 
and the command line is similar to boot, but evacuate is an admin operation and 
the admin doesn't have the original injected files.

We've talked about issues with file injection before [2] - in that case not 
being able to tell if it can be honored and it just silently doesn't inject the 
files but the server build doesn't fail. We could eventually resolve that with 
capabilities discovery in the API.

There are other issues with file injection, like potential security issues, and 
we've talked about getting rid of it for years because you can use the config 
drive.

The metadata service is not a replacement, as noted in the code [3], because 
the files aren't persisted in nova so they can't be served up later.

I'm sure we've talked about this before, but if we were to seriously consider 
deprecating file injection, what does that look like?  Thoughts off the top of 
my head are:

1. Add a microversion to the server create and rebuild REST APIs such that the 
personality files aren't accepted unless:

a) you're also building the server with a config drive
b) or CONF.force_config_drive is True
c) or the image has the 'img_config_drive=mandatory' property

2. Deprecate VFSLocalFS in Ocata for removal in Pike. That means libguestfs is 
required. We'd do this because I think VFSLocalFS is the one with potential 
security issues.



Am I missing anything? Does this sound like a reasonable path forward? 
Are there other use cases out there for file injection that we don't have 
alternatives for like config drive?

[openstack-dev] [neutron][dvr][fip] router support two external network

Hi all
Currently, neutron model supports one router with one external network, 
which is used to connect router to outside world. FIP can be allocated from 
external network which is gateway of a router. One private fixed ip of one 
port(usually it is a vm port ) can only associate one floating ip.  In some 
deployment scenario, all ports served by one router, all ports need ip address 
which can be accessed by intranet, and some ports need ip address which can be 
accessed by internet. I was wondering how neutron to resolve this kind of use 
cases? One idea is one router support two external network(one for intranet, 
the other one for internet, but only have gateway), the other idea is one 
router still have only one external network, but this external have two 
different type of subnet (one for internet, the other one for intranet). any 
comment is welcome. thanks.
