Federico, I presume you speak italian.
Your company is a Mirantis partner ?
We are going to select an openstack distro and we need to speak about
mirantis.

Hi Ignazio,
never tested it, I may suppose that during the installation the appliance
is created or downloaded (but I may be totally wrong). As by documentation:

For help using or hacking on OVSvApp solution, you can send an email to the
OpenStack Development Mailing List ;
kindly use the [Networking-vSphere] Tag in the subject.

[Openstack-operators] nova-neutron with vsphere

2015-09-24 Thread Miko Bello

Hi Folks,i would like to know if anybody has tried to implement a neutron
solution with vsphere without using NSX-like solutions.
I mean, my lab environment is composed of :

 - 1 network node ( neutron )
 - 1 controller node
 - 2 compute node ( kvm)
 - 1 compute node linked to a cluster vsphere 6.0

i tried, without success ;( to deploy an instance on vsphere node with a
network configuration of type VLAN; ( obviously, in this configuration,i have
not the ambition of a ovs solution type :) )
so my questions are: it's' possible to implement a network neutron solution of
type VLAN ? if yes how can i do?
Thanks in advantage.

Hi Miko,
it is possible to develop a neutron extension for achieveing your goal.
Indeed for a customer we developed a ML2 driver that creates the needed
portgroups and connect them to the right vlan in vCenter and hence when
VMware VMs are created connect them to the create portgroups. The solution
in this case is very simple, i.e. all the traffic goes through the
controller nodes (no dvr, for example using the vmware proxy compute).
Unfortunately, I don't think we can share the code (the customer retained
the IPR on it) :(

my suggestion is:
- have a look on how to create a ML2 plugin
- understand vCenter APIs

Re: [Openstack-operators] nova-neutron with vsphere

2015-09-24 Thread Mark Voelker
Miko,

There’s a VDS driver for Neutron in addition to the NSX one that you might want
to have a look at if you haven’t already. Some notes on that here (these are
from the admin guides for the VMware Integrated OpenStack distribution as it
does a pretty good job of describing the requirements, architecture, and
limitations of the VDS driver, but the driver itself is open source and can be
used by anyone):

VDS obviously won’t work for the KVM compute hosts though. A fairly
widely-used tactic if you don’t want to use an SDN or overlay based solution
for spanning multiple hypervisors is to separate the hypervisor hosts into
separate regions (which have distinct API endpoints and can therefore have
services configured completely differently if you so desire). If you’re not
familiar with the concept of regions, have a look here:

http://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ops/content/scaling.html

Note that if you go that route users need to target one region or the other
when making API calls since they are distinct API endpoints.

Re: [Openstack-operators] nova-neutron with vsphere

2015-09-24 Thread Federico Michele Facca
As early mentioned this week, Mark's option is a valid alternative
(separate regions). @ Mark, I wonder if this excpert from your pointer is
still valid:

"VDS-based networking has limitations, including the inability of tenants
to create their own private L2 networks, and the inability to deliver L3
and higher networking services such as virtual routers, security groups,
and floating IPs.
If such features are important for your VMware Integrated OpenStack
deployment, consider using NSX-V for Neutron networking."

In case I think people should be aware of this before going for this option.

Federico

[Openstack-operators] [openstack-dev][openstack-operators][Rally] Rally plugins reference is available

2015-09-24 Thread Boris Pavlovic
Hi stackers,

As far as you know Rally test cases are created as a mix of plugins.

At this point of time we have more than 200 plugins for almost all
OpenStack projects.
Before you had to analyze code of plugins or use "rally plugin find/list"
commands to find plugins that you need, which was the pain in neck.

So finally we have auto generated plugin reference:
https://rally.readthedocs.org/en/latest/plugin/plugin_reference.html

Best regards,

[Openstack-operators] [all] [neutron] [ux] [nova] Nova Network/Neutron Migration Survey

2015-09-24 Thread Kruithof, Piet
The OpenStack UX project team would like to invite you to participate in a
survey to help drive product direction for the Neutron project. The survey
should take no more than fifteen minutes to complete.

We are specifically looking for folks with the following kinds of roles;
Architect, Cloud Operator, System Administrator, Network Architect / Engineer /
Administrator, Developer, or IT Manager / Director. In addition, they should
be familiar with either Nova Networks and/or Neutron.

You will also be entered in a raffle for one of two $100 US Amazon gift cards
at the end of the survey. As always, the results from the survey will be
shared with the OpenStack community.

Please click on the following link to begin the survey.

[Openstack-operators] [puppet] need help understanding specific puppet logs in openstack installation

2015-09-24 Thread Rahul Sharma
Hi All,

I am trying the RDO installation of Openstack using puppet. It works fine
when I puppetize my controller node for the first time after fresh
installation of OS. There are no errors thrown at terminal during the
installation. However, if I try to rerun the puppet agent, it configures
something additional this time which is not configured during the first
run. Mentioned below are the logs it prints to terminal:-

Notice: /File[/etc/sysconfig/iptables]/seluser: seluser changed
'unconfined_u' to 'system_u'
Notice:
/Stage[main]/Neutron::Agents::Ml2::Ovs/Service[ovs-cleanup-service]/enable:
enable changed 'false' to 'true'
Notice:
/Stage[main]/Neutron::Agents::Ml2::Ovs/Neutron::Plugins::Ovs::Bridge[physext1:br-ex]/Vs_bridge[br-ex]/external_ids:
external_ids changed '' to 'bridge-id=br-ex'
Notice: /Stage[main]/Quickstack::Neutron::Controller/Exec[neutron-db-manage
upgrade]/returns: executed successfully
Notice: Finished catalog run in 36.61 seconds

>From these logs, I am unable to figure out which of the parameters were not
configured when it was run for the first time so that I can try fixing them
in the script itself. I want to avoid the dependency of running puppet
multiple times. Looking at the *.conf files on the controller node doesn't
help much.

Can someone please help me out in understanding what the above mentioned
logs point to? Any pointers would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Re: [Openstack-operators] nova-neutron with vsphere

2015-09-24 Thread Mark Voelker
Yes: as the document there notes, the VDS driver uses provider networks (which
in Neutron are created by the admin rather than the tenant and basically map
neutron networks to VLANs in the physical datacenter network) and therefore
punt L3 operations to the datacenter network.
