Re: [Openstack-operators] [User-committee] Non-Candidacy for UC Election August 2017

2017-08-04 Thread Edgar Magana
Jon,

You have been a pillar for all UC accomplishments. Your contributions made a
difference for our community and there is no easy way to fill your shoes. This
is not an easy job and I totally understand why you are taking a break, you
deserved.
I know you will be around and that is great.

Thank you!

Edgar

[Openstack-operators] [cinder][stable] Reverting the deprecation notice: Cinder Driver for NetApp E-Series

2017-08-04 Thread Ravi, Goutham
Developers and Operators,

NetApp had prior provided notification [1] in accordance with community policy
[2] of an intention to deprecate the iSCSI and FC Cinder drivers for NetApp
E/EF-Series systems [3]. The community notification issued had the effect of
introducing us to and engendering discussion with deployers (and those with
near term plans to become deployers) indicating the importance of continued
support for E/EF-series systems beyond the Pike release. We hadn’t been prior
familiar with many of these folks and greatly appreciate their having shared
their perspective.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve reconsidered our approach based on this
new information.

Our intention with this mail is to revoke [3] the deprecation notice indicated
in April 2017 and to continue to support E/EF-series systems. As such, we do
not intend to remove these drivers during the Queens or for the foreseeable
future.

Any Cinder E-series current or prospective deployers are encouraged to get in
touch with NetApp via the community #openstack-netapp IRC channel on freenode
or via the #OpenStack Slack channel on http://netapp.io for
any questions.

Thanks,
Goutham Pacha Ravi

Re: [Openstack-operators] [User-committee] [all] Announcement: Public Cloud WG

2017-08-04 Thread Tobias Rydberg
With this warm welcome from all, I would like to take the opportunity to
briefly mention a couple of things we are currently working on:

In Boston, we had a great success with our “Missing features list for Public
Clouds” - a lot of interest, both from public clouds and inside the community.
With this list, as the name of it says, we're compiling a definitive record of
features that public cloud vendors would like to see in OpenStack today, and
what’s needed for them to continue grow their businesses based on OpenStack.

Our process is simple: convert these feature requests into specs, and get
developers from public cloud providers (and the wider community) to come
together and contribute upstream.

We're particularly excited to be working on the “OpenStack Passport” - a
"prepaid coupon” system which is valid for any public cloud vendor
participating in the scheme. It's early days but please do check our wiki [1]
and IRC meeting minutes to follow the progress.

To get the passport scheme kicked off right, we are planning to have two group
meetups during the fall before the summit in Sydney. These will be piggybacking
on OpenStack days UK (London, September) and Nordics (Copenhagen, October).
We'd welcome any ideas, support, advice etc and hope some of you will be able
to join us there for whiteboarding/fishbowl sessions.

Once again, thanks a lot for the support!

Regards,
Tobias Rydberg (and all members of the Public Cloud WG)
