[opensuse] Linux Kernel VESA Video Modes for 1440x900
CORRECTED MESSAGE - JAN, I AGREE THIS DIDN'T NEED TO GO TO SAMBA Jan, List: Is there any way we can compile a kernel to include the VESA Video Modes for 1440x900 resolution so that we can pass grub VGA=867 for 1440x900. This will all me to work in runlevel 3 without the screen resolution being stretched from 1024x768 to 1440x900. The stretch causes everything to be distorted. The necessary VESA modes and numbers are: 1440x900 (dec; hex) -- 16 color --; -- 256 color (864; 0x360) 15 bit (865; 0x361) 16 bit (866; 0x362) 24 bit (867; 0x363) 32 bit (868; 0x364) There is also the new widescreen resolution of 1600x1050, but I do not have the vesa modes for that resolution. I would like to learn how to do this, or if this is something that has to be done by the kernel folks, I would ask that they consider including this capability in the future kernels. Older machines give you options in BIOS to setup boot order. Set second hard disk before first and than you can boot Linux. The SDB article seems to be for a single disk, or this is problem with NTFS mentioned here: http://www.enterprisedt.com/publications/dual_boot.html I tested once that kind of boot and it didn't worked. It was also from NTFS, but then I run: grub-install /dev/fd0 that installed grub on floppy and booted for quite some time from floppy. There was no speed problem as on floppy was only boot sector that was looking for the rest of files on hard disk. Hmm, I would say that you have no access to BIOS, and no boot menu so that you can select second drive to boot from, which would be the clean solution. The USB should be the same story as a floppy. Insert USB stick and see what device it is, and then run grub-install with that device instead of /dev/floppy, but backup data on USB stick before grub-install, just in case. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Novell developers wouldn't likely try anything > significant without major participation from the kernel development community > and the Linux community generally. Libata being a part of scsi is considered a major shortcoming. The plan according to the lkml-ide list is to eventually seperate it out into its own infrastructure. Maybe use a /dev/diskX type of naming convention. If that is done they should be able to support more partitions again. FYI: The core libata devels that I see on lkml-ide are: Jeff Garzik - libata architect - Redhat employee Tejun Heo - libata coder and extender - Novell employee Alan Cox - libata/pata implementer - Redhat employee In particular without Tejun Heo of Novell, the kernels sata support would not have advanced much in the last couple years. Jeff just doesn't seem to have time to do much more than review the massive amount of new code that Tejun produces. As an example 80% of Tejun's PMP code has still not been reviewed by Jeff and that was submitted a couple months ago. So if Novell is going to make a kernel push to support 16+ partitions with libata it will likely be via getting Tejun to do the hard work of turning libata into a full fledged subsystem under the overall direction of Jeff Garzik. All forum posts are indeed archived. For example, take a look at the VMware Server forum: http://www.vmware.com/community/forum.jspa?forumID=219 There's a "search forum" box at the top of the right column; if your first search is unsatisfactory, there's an "Advanced Search" form included with your results. Note the time range; the default is posts within the last week. Change this dropdown if you'd like to search back to the beginning of the forum. On each forum topic, there's a link at the top entitled "Watch this topic." Clicking here (assuming you are using the forums as a logged-in user) will cause all new posts to be emailed to you. When you are a logged-in user, clicking on the link for "Your Control Panel" gives you access to two relevant choices: "Always watch topics I create" and "Always watch topics I reply to". Note also the link on this page for "My Watches", which allows you to control your currently active watches. Finally, if you have an RSS tool, note that each forum is available as an RSS feed. I personally am just a user of the forums; I have no direct responsibility for them. If you have comments or feedback on the forums, the best way to reach the people who manage it would be via the Web and Community Suggestions forum: http://www.vmware.com/community/forum.jspa?forumID=36 Best wishes-- -- Brian Rice [EMAIL PROTECTED] Education Services Product Manager VMware, Inc. If you have apps writing data there, you might try #du |less as each user to see who is hogging the disk. It shows the byte count for each directory. (Or as su, du /home/ |less) The |less, of course, shows the output a page at a time with the ability to page backward. ("man" is your friend) du is a simple tool that can spot problems quickly. The files starting with . are 'hidden' user settings that you don't want to delete, but for instance: ~/.kde directory contains not only settings, but also KMail has all your mail in one of subdirectories. That you don't want to delete too. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have not actively run it lately, but iirc * grab kernel 2.6.18.8-1.ccj45 (rpm) * grab squid 2.6 (untested) or squid-3.0-322.ccj0.{i586|x86_64}.rpm * set tproxy on and tcp_outgoing_address to your IP address -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The difference to "reject_unauth_destination" is, that permit_auth_destination will stop the evaluation of the checks and permit the requests while reject_unauth_destination (like mouss suggested) will only reject relay attempts and otherwise continue with the checks behind reject_unauth_destination. So the mail could still be rejected for other reasons like greylisting, RBLs etc. It is also the reason why I suggested reject_unlisted_recipient first to make sure that the recipient is valid before accepting the mail with permit_auth_destination. -- Sandy List replies only please! [opensuse] Postfix to stop all email from internet/public IP's to user begining with bk
Hello and thanks in advance. I want all email from public IP's/internet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to be rejected. The rules for restricting private IP's are working great thanks to Sandy Drobic here and Mouss from the postfix mail list. Now I need to stop all emails to users that begin with bk from the internet but allow all other's. For example of two users... [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Here is how the system is setup. - | | --- Internet-- | Gateway Box | Internet public IP| | |---| | example.com | nic 1 example.com | | email [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | | | Some users have [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | which is the same as the machine ip1921680001.local.example.com | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] not all users are machine | related but start with bk | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | nic's 2,3 | one 192.168.x.x | local.example.com | Many Systems using the entire 192.168.x.x space Email from any 192.168.x.x for [EMAIL PROTECTED] stays on the server for them to read/pickup varies(working). What I want/need is any email from the internet/Public IP to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to be rejected and keep working any email from local.example.com or 192.168.x.x for [EMAIL PROTECTED] As it is now. So for DNS I have 64770 entries in local.example.com as follows: --local.example.com- $TTL3600 @ IN SOA example.example.com.root.example.example.com.( 2007080401 ; Serial 3600; Refresh 1800; Retry 2419200 ; Expire 86400 ) ; Minimum IN NS example.example.com. ip1921680001IN A 192.168.0.1 ip1921680002IN A 192.168.0.2 ... ip192168255253 IN A 192.168.255.253 ip192168255254 IN A 192.168.255.254 --local.example.com- and rDNS -168.192.in-addr.arpa--- $TTL3600 @ IN SOA example.example.com.root.example.example.com.
