Hmm, seem that this is an old page, and the signup form doesn't exist
anymore...that is a shame for anybody who wants to repackage

It doesn't matter if it is FREE, costs $1000, if it plays MP3s,
displays jpegs or edits text files, if the owner provides it to you
under the agreement that you will not distribute it. Which is the case
of RealPlayer, which then means that you are making copies without a
license and in most countries (maybe not yours) would not be legal.

As it so happens Real Networks does allow distribution on physical
media of RealPlayer IF you contact Real Networks and agree to their
DISTRIBUTION license, and yes it is FREE.
http://www.real.com/licensing/faq.html

All that said I would doubt very much that Real Networks would be
actively chasing people across various jurisdictions distributing Real
Player on CD without a license. How could they even claim damages in
any courtcase?

Adobe have an online form for requesting to distribute Acrobat Reader,
it is a license acceptance form really, and they don't charge.

np ;)

Novell has made deals with Real and Adobe to redistribute it as part of their
boxed SUSE Linux
versions. Note that they're *not* included in the SUSE Linux OSS version,
that's why I pointed you
to those redistribution licenses.

Redistribution is only granted if you ask them before you do, and if they agree
(they might want to
charge for that, I don't know...). But you could still contact Real and Adobe
to ask whether you may
redistribute it free of charge (or not).

Note that for PDFs, kpdf/kghostview/xpdf do really fine.

And for Real Player, have a look at Helix, it's the OSS version of Real Player
(but OSS is one
thing, the redistribution license depends on the OSS license they have chosen).

cheers

NOT PERMITTED"

So we must take it out. :(

[opensuse] Injuv/Linux based on OpenSuSE

2005-11-13 Thread Patricio Bruna V.
Just to let you know.
We just finish a customized version of openSuSE one cd install.
This is for the National Institute of Youth of Chile, this ONG has about 120
free Infocenters (cibercafes) where the youngs chileans can access to
internet.
50 of this infocenters will run this customized version (codename Injuv/Linux,
not very original) and the others will run the same but in Terminal mode.
Some change we made was incorporate: Adobe Acrobat 7, Real Player, AMSN (just
for the look and feel) , and Gcompris.
Other changes include: the infos splash (when installing), only the spanish
packages, the default desktop background, and the defaults icons on the
desktop, and other minors.
We are preparing too a complete Howto, a la wiki.

The people behind this are: Cristian Brevis and me.
