[opensuse] YOU Disk Space Warning.

Hi,

Yast online update insists that my disk space is low:

name· Disk usage · used · Free · total
/grande 97% 161 GB 3.5 GB164 GB

(in red)

Now, isn't it absurd that it complains of space, when there are 3.5 GB
free, even if that's only 3%?

AFAIK it's not, as I was always told you should better not fill a partition
too much over 50% to prevent fragmentation. Of course big disks may have
changed that, but I still would not like to work with a 97% full partition
(unless it's really only storage).

It is only storage of large files, like distro iso images. No way YOU
would write there.

I guess it's complaining because the free space is less than 5%. That's
the system default AFAIK but I believe you can tune it. So if you want a
different limit but haven't set it, it's not the system that's absurd :)

I don't think it is a system default, but a YOU warning default.

It's certainly a feature of ext2 and ext3 filesystems (and previously in
Unix). I don't know about other filesystems.

Cheers, Dave

This one is XFS.
