Installed it early this morning (my time, east coast of Australia).

Good luck.

Let me know how you go with it.

Cheers.

I tried to add the factory install source during install, but it reported
two times a failed checksum, so I had to skip adding the installation
sources at that point. I later activated the http source and it seemed to
work.

Thanks for Top-Posting.
My torrent yesterday was steady at about 150k/s.

Nothing major. The only wierd thing during the reboot in the middle of the
installation was that the installer insisted on parsing the file list and
seemed to hang at that point. I just hit Abort and the rest went smoothly.

[opensuse] Beta 2 won't install .. error creating catalog

2006-11-11 Thread Bruce A. Mallett
This is new to me:
Error occurred while creating the catalog
   cd :///?devices=/dev/hdc,/dev/hdd
Unknown Error: Unable to copy media directory
   to /var/tmp/TmpDir.75IZ4f/MEDIA

Check media works, but I can't find an MD5SUM on the opensuse.org page
to verify (mine began with 81e273..., FWIW)

Seems fine, so your download is not the reason for the trouble. Could you
give some more details about your setup and at what point exactly the
error happened?

Thanks Sandy,

It is a Sony VAIO RX580 desktop with added components of an NVidia card,
a second drive (160G), and an added DVD burner. The error occurs
immediately after the beta warning and accepting the agreement. It does
a probe of devices, then starts to create a catalog, then times out with
the above error.

If you or anyone can instruct me about logs to gather/post etc. I'd be
happy to do so.

TIA

Strange. Did you try an Upgrade or a pristine install?

Please try to find out if the error was caused by yast not finding the
source drive correctly (it seems you have two available cd drives) or if
yast can't write to the install drive.

Sandy,

I got the install to start (it is going now as I type this). What my
change has to do with it installing vs. not installing is a mystery,
however it seems to work.

The system *was* setup so that the 1st listed boot device was the NEC
DVD burner. The CDROM drive was not listed (2nd boot device was the
HD). I went into the BIOS and changed the boot device to be the ASUS
CDROM drive. I left the install media where it was in the NEC DVD drive
and rebooted. My expectation was that it would then boot from the HD
since (to my way of thinking) it would try the CDROM drive (nothing in
there), skip the NEC DVD burner (since it was not listed in the BIOS
boot list), and then go to the HD. Surprise! It booted from the DVD
drive. So I started to install SUSE.

Before it would ask me what kind of install I wanted and I'd select "New
installation". It would then error with the message I showed earlier
while trying to create the catalog. This time it worked. Very odd.

As I said, this error is new to me. I've installed SUSE 9.3, 10.0,
10.1, SLED10, K/ubuntu (6.10) on the machine w/o incident. Only the
10.2 Beta2 showed this issue (I did not try B1 on it).

Oh well, now to go finish the install.
