You should have it in 10.2 alpha. Look the YaST in the same place where
you was able to find selections. I still use 10.0/10.1, so this the guess.

true but some burning tool need cdrecord

that could be nice if somebody could post the pattern for gnome, kde... suse
use

and we could said what package is not really used

[opensuse-factory] Adding SBIG CCD camera support to SUSE?

2006-08-27 Thread Jasem Mutlaq
Hello,

Sorry if this is not the appropiate list to discuss
this issue.

Santa Barbara SBIG CCD camera is one of the most
popular cameras used in astronomy. In order to
operate, the CCD requires a firmware to be uploaded
upon detection on the USB port. Otherwise, you can't
establish any further communications at all.

So we have a few hex files needed for firmware
uploaded to be placed under /lib/firmware and we have
have a rule file to be placed under /etc/udev/rules.d/
that uses fxload to upload the appropiate firmware.

We feel it's absolutely neccessary to have this CCD
supported. There are more technical details, but I'm
not sure whom to address when it comes to this task.

Cheers,

What about a pattern for console users instead? A pattern that includes
software which is rarely used or unnecessary on desktops, but handy for
the console.

Some ideas for this pattern include:

mc
findutils-locate
antiword
vorbis-tools (for ogg123)
lynx
xpdf-tools (for pdftotext, can be used as pdf reader)
sox (for /usr/bin/play)
cdrecord
bsd-games

This pattern should aim against feature-parity with the desktop on the
console.

This is a normal Factory inconsistency which will probably disappear
with the next sync, but others will follow. ;-)

Same here. I didn't report it because it is too obvious.

It's probably caused by GNOME being a mix of three versions: 2.12, 2.14,
2.16.

You can report that, but since it's the consequence of the obvious c),
it's probably not necessary.

That was the same here (ipw2200), but it suddenly disappeared. Try to
update as many packages as possible.

Those which are not already reported, yes.

Not being able to play WMV is not a bug; the gstreamer packages in
Factory don't contain the ffmpeg plugin for legal reasons, which would
be needed to play WMV.

The GNOME problems will probably disappear anyway when GNOME is fully
updated to version 2.16.

[opensuse-factory] Latest Update on factory tree and 10.2 Alpha 3 experience

2006-08-27 Thread Michael Brasse
Hello list, I am closely following the factory tree with my installation (Dell Latitude C640). With
the latest update from Aug 26th I hoped,  some of the issues I had are
solved and finally I can use firefox again which was one of the main
issues. But a few other things I am struggling with: a) With rug I get dependendy problems updating cpp41, gcc41, gcc41-c++, gcc41-fortran, gcc41-info,gcc41-objc,libstdc++-41-develThe following things I see since updating to
10.2 alpha versions: b)
metacity is not usable as window manager for gnome (I currently
switched to icewm), starting it at the command line I get the
following: sandmann:/ # metacity --replaceWindow manager warning: Bad key or directory name: "ENABLE_WINDOWS_KEYS": Must begin with a slash (/)
Segmentation faultI was not able to find anything about the mentioned key/directory name and also google wasn't helping. Where can I start lookingc)
At startup I get a message "Gnome Settings Deamon" couldn't be started.
After trying all solutions which I found, I completely reinstalled
openSUSE (from the factory tree again), created a new user, but
unfortunately the problem remained. A process is running: sandmann:/ # ps -ef | grep gnome-settings-daemonmbrasse

/opt/gnome/lib/control-center-2.0/gnome-settings-daemon
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon --oaf-ior-fd=29
When I kill that process and restart the same command from the console I get: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/> /opt/gnome/lib/control-center-2.0/gnome-settings-daemon --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon --oaf-ior-fd=29

All yast menu entries (gnome main menu and also in the control center)
don't force to run yast2 as root. The only way to use yast fully is
from the command prompt. e) The gnome keyboard properties applet crashing when I try to start it. I
still need to install bug-buddy before I can give more hints. If I
start it from the console it hints again, that the
gnome-settings-daemon is not running before crashing. f) NetworkManager doesn't recognize my network devices any
more and says "no network devices found" so I had to change to the
"traditional method using ifup" which works fine. I have a Dell True Mobile WLAN and a integrated fast Ethernet controller in my laptop.

workarounds or solutions known? Shall I report the things as bugs?

Why is this considered Desktop/Prod instead of kernel?

Please add the devicescape wireless stack into 2.6.18 (you might just be
one release early ;)
The reason why is, that some wireless drivers are only maintained (or
usable) for the devicescape wireless stack, not the regulare one.
