Re: [opensuse-factory] [suggestion] YaST-update should NOT refresh all installation-sources when called by opensuse-updater
Well, Herr Kuhlmann, have you ever considered that the average dialup user wouldn't be stupid enough to try applying remote updates over his link? Unless he was incredibly desperate not to have his Apache server hacked XD Almost ALL computers these days have a broadband connection of some form. Really? In which world are you living? Yes, I'm not proud that I used a 33.6k modem up until January 19 2006, but one of the first things i did on my broadband link was download a new distro (i'd been using Fedora Core 4, and as you can imagine it traumatised me for life.) - There's just NO excuse to use a dial-in narrowband data link for anything more than ssh these days. Cheap and plentiful data pipes are available in every developed country of the world Welcome to the real world, where not all users are from the so-called developed countries and where not all internet access are broadband. Re: [opensuse-factory] GNOME?
First, out of the box the fonts are horrible. Why are they so ugly by default in GNOME but nice in KDE? It's very easy to set this up in GNOME but what about newbies and businesses that don't want to spend the time doing all of this? Have to say that they seem fine for me - can you provide more details maybe? So my question is why isn't there an option to get a fully functioning banshee that works (not helix-banshee) like the amarok version in packman? Also I don't want RealPlayer on my laptop ... no thanks! Well, you sort of hit the nail on the head there. PackMan. The same issues that mean you need to use a third party build of AmaroK apply to Banshee. Now, what you can do, since you're using PackMan anyway is use their gstreamer010-* packages and the Banshee packages from the Build Service (either the Banshee project or GNOME:Community) and you should be good to go. Third, beagle integration and SLAB are very bad. Again the beagle integration in KDE is terrific and kickoff works wonderfully but beagle in GNOME and SLAB are just horrendous. Why is SLAB such a hog? See my following thoughts on the issue: http://rubberturnip.org.uk/index.cgi/2007/01/13 http://rubberturnip.org.uk/index.cgi/2007/02/20 The new version of slab, in Factory, seems to be less of a hog but it still doesn't have the Beagle integration of KickOff. I'm just wondering where the love for GNOME is? Yo! They are indeed stalled on the fact, that it was not possible, at that time, to find a location that is _the_ project place for ltsp5. It was just not possible to find a developer that could point to a url and state: that are the ltsp5 sources, run make install and be happy. That might have changed in the meantime, but I did not see it happen. In my opinion without a good project home (sources location or released tarbal location) it is not possible to include a project into a distribution. Hence, the first step for someone that starts to work on this, is I think to identify the ltsp5 releases tarbal location and have that included in opensuse. -- Richard Bos We are borrowing the world of our children, It is not inherited from our parents. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [opensuse-factory] LTSP 5 + openSUSE
I found the source location weeks ago but it was not as it is now, would someone like to look again, https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp BTW, it sounds like with a little help we could actually change LTSP5 into something much more flexible if we replace the ltsp-client-build script with something that utilizes KIWI and add a management tool to build the different clients\images. cyberorg and I were looking at the code this AM. it will of course take some tweaking to get the local app and dev support running. [opensuse-factory] blurry k-menu icons (10.3 Alpha3)
I have just installed and updated the latest openSUSE development release, so now am running 10.3 Alpha3plus. I have to say that it's faster than 10.2, however the icons on the k-menu are a bit ugly for my taste... they are small and many of them are blurry.. I prefer openSUSE 10.2's k-menu. Anyway, is there a way to make them bigger? I would suggest to make the icons a little bit bigger as they were in 10.2.
