[opensuse-factory] cannot update from 10.2 to 10.3 RC1

2007-09-21 Thread Gabriel
I couldn't update an opensuse 10.2 with 10.3 RC1 because an unresolvable
dependency resolution timeout

What is this???

Is there a way to force updating anyway?

IMO, if there's a package conflict, yast can't resolve it, ok, just
leave it, who cares, it will not work anyway. Or the package doesn't
exist on any repository, it has no conflict, why want to remove it?,
just leave it.

Is there an expert instalation mode or something like that available?

[opensuse-factory] LDAP login fails on 10.3 RC1

2007-09-21 Thread Birger Kollstrand
Hi,

LDAP login fails for me on 10.3, RC1.

from /var/log/messages i get this:
Sep 21 23:02:46 norbert nscd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server
ldap://10.0.0.3: Can't contact LDAP server

But that does noe help me that much. I tried to install Wireshark, but
can not find it in yast or the build service.

The LDAP login works from my other 10.2 machies. There are no problems
indicated on the server log (also a 10.2 machine)

I would appreciate if there are anyone else that know more of LDAP
than me that can guide me in the right direction to solve this issue.

[opensuse-factory] EVMS in 10.3

2007-09-21 Thread James Oakley
According to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224462 , EVMS
installation was disabled in 10.2 and was to be reenabled in 10.3.

I'd like to try it in RC1, but it is apparently still not enabled. Is there
any way I can enable it myself?

When trying out alphas and betas, I've finally gotten used to just
burning the first 40Mb of the DVD (or the first CD-iso). "Wasting" a CD
per version isn't really a big deal, but is there any way of e.g.
creating one multi-session CD with Aplha1 and then appending the

[opensuse-factory] Problem with udevd on openSUSE 10.3 (Beta/RC)

2007-09-21 Thread Thomas Babut
Hi,

yesterday I've installed openSUSE 10.3 RC1 and after the installation
the boot process from hard disk hangs, when udevd is being started.
After waiting minutes, nothing happens, even after pressing STRG+C. With
openSUSE 10.3 Beta 3 I had the same problem. But the system is not
frozen, because the enter- and numlock-key are still working.

Perhaps this has something to do with this bug:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270490

I am running the following hardware:

Intel Core2Duo E6750
2 GB RAM
Gigabyte P35-DS3P
NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTS
2 x SATA WD3200AAKS with Intel Matrix RAID 0 (ICH9R)
Samsung SATA DVD-ROM
Samsung SATA DVD-RW

So, what's wrong? In the rescue system I'm not able to see the RAID
array, probably missing dmraid/devicemapper.

Thanks in advance.

Usually it works to delete all network cards in yast lan, then close it
(this step is important!). Open yast2 lan again and then you can configure
what is recognized now.

[opensuse-factory] rc1 and via-rfhine

2007-09-21 Thread jdd

Hello,
I have a mobo K7VT6 with Asrock network, configured through dhcp and
via-rhine module.

works perfectly in 10.1

I install 10.3 RC1 by upgrade of older alpha (3 I think)

when I need to configure the net, Yast detects the card and see it
"unconfigured"

I hit "configure", dhcp, ok... and the network don't works

if I go back to Yast, I can see the line for asrock is still
"unconfigured", and there is an other line below, exactly the same,
but noted "dhdp"

notice that I have also an other net card in the computer (neither
configured neither tried)

idea?

Hmm.. puzzling :O) Without using the packman repo, it should work with
zypper.

There are several ways to approach the > 15 partitions problem:
* Use PATA for PATA disk (for people migrating from older distros)
* Use LVM and you don't have a problem (preferred way for new
  installations)
* Use some hacks with devicemapper to support more than 15 partitions.
Bug 218122 is one such hack. We wanted to use it for the migration
issue. It was not intented for new installations - for those, please
  use LVM!

More than 15 are supported with LVM since ages. The problem we're
talking about is migration - and therefore the bug is called on libata.
Seeing your confusion, I guess it should have been stated "libata for
PATA devices".

Hannes has to answer the rest of the email - and I guess you should
start this discussion on the Linux kernel mailing list or on the libata
development list. We're speaking about a limitation of the upstream
kernel,

Such data is retrieved from the BIOS. Please run "hwinfo" (as root) and send
the output to me (no need to 'spam' the whole mailinglist).
Either the BIOS is reporting the wrong model or hardware probing looks
at the wrong data. The hwinfo output will tell us.

Re: [opensuse-factory] Oo needs Gstreamer in RC1, which is not in the factory-repo?

2007-09-21 Thread Jan Kupec
The problem is the newer version of gstreamer in the packman repository.
You can resolve it in YaST (also during installation) by manually
selecting the version of gstreamer from factory in the Versions tab.

You will probably not be able to resolve this with zypper, maybe by
disabling the packman repo for that update.

I wonder if the solver should propose the version change which would
lead to the resolution. Schubi?
