[opensuse-gnome] External USB CD/DVD-RW Driver Not Working

2011-12-15 Thread Adam Tauno Williams
openSUSE 12.1 x86_64 3.1.0-1.2-desktop GNOME3 3.2.1

I have an external USB CD/DVD drive. This drive has always 'just
worked' in openSUSE 11.3 & 11.4. However, under 12.1, the drive doesn't
seem to participate as a removable storage device. It does not appear
in Nautilus when a disc is inserted or raise any prompt when a blank
disc is inserted.

My user is a member of the "cdrom" group.

If I power-on the drive I see the following in dmesg -

Do I need to twiddle something to get GNOME to manage this device as a
removable media device?

Does it appear in "udisks --dump"?

You seem to have two DVD drives. Does it happen for both, or only one of
them?

What do you get in: gvfs-mount --list
Also, does anything happen when you plug it in: gvfs-mount --monitor

Cheers,

Yes; both worked previously.

Hmmm, actually neither of them appear to work.

Inserting the DVD did not raise an event.

Hrm, and in udisks --monitor (or --monitor-detail)?

It really sounds like an issue deeper than GNOME, fwiw.

me guess: You upgraded from 11.4.

I have the same problem on an upgrade from 11.4 --> 12.1
And I have it for all removable devices that do not exist on boot, and I
may be wrong about boot.

I have pmount installed and can use the devices via pmount or by mounting
via root/super-user.

Posted problem on opensuse w/o resolution :^(

will follow your thread but do not believe it is a gnome problem as I run
kde almost exclusively and kde is where I see the problem.

Urg, yea, I don't want to have to do that.

Changing the DVD is the drive doesn't seem to raise any events.

I assume the fact that I see no events means there are no events being
received by GNOME; and as a result GNOME does nothing [obviously]. So
the issue must be in udisk / USB support. ??
