according to Mr. Stecher from openthinclient the drivers for the virtual
network adapters are missing right now. They will be integrated in pales in
4 to 6 weeks.

To test in vmware Workstation use consus.

I only found this options in the desktop application:
- disabled
- require user's permission(rejects after 30 seconds)
- don't require user's permission

But I need the following setting:
Show the user a window with a 15 seconds timeout(accept/reject) and after
the 15 Seconds accept the connection automatically if the user hasn't
clicked accept or reject

Hi Michael,

you can modify the behavior of the RemoteControl (this is VNC) in the
desktop application. There is a way to auto accept clientrequests.

Hi folks. My use case for the Openthinclient is for a situation where a
pool of machines are used by people who are not on the whole
knowledgeable about computers but where there may be the odd hacker
pretending to be something else.

Openthinclient is attractive because I can PXE boot the user's machines
from a server that they can't get near and I can make sure there is
nothing deployed to the machines which allows them to attack the server.
However, I have noticed that, in my current temporary configuration, the
command history for the terminal is being remembered between sessions.
This implies that the profile is being kept between sessions, which I
don't want (as the next session may be a different user).

I will be most grateful if someone would please advise how to get a
"clean" profile at the start of every session.

[openthinclient-user] Boot Problem

2013-01-21 Thread Pippo Loporto
Hi,

I have successfully installed, booted and tested OTC (Windows) in my office

The problems I am having are when I installed it in the production environment.

I can't seem to get one client past the "Mounting root file system " prompt.

Any ideas of what may be wrong would be highly appreciated.

And you state that the SAME clients and OTC server worked in your office

How close to the OTC server can you physically get in your production network ?
Can you connect a client directly to the same switch as the server is connected
to and there try it out ?

If it works in the office environment but not in the production environment
with the same clients and server it just has to be in the network.

I meant that I cannot boot even one client so ALL clients are having the same

The windows OTC server has it's firewall completely turned off for the time

Hi Jan,

Thank you for your follow up support.

Both the OTC Server(2008 R2) and the thin client are Vmware VMs on the same
Vmware server.

They were both on a test Vmware host in a test isolated network environment
where they worked nicely and I have now transferred them to the production
network on a production Vmware host but this boot problem cropped up.

I understand it is probably a network issue but I need help tracking down the
problem.

Best Regards
Pippo

Hi Pippo,

And you state that the SAME clients and OTC server worked in your office
segment ?

How close to the OTC server can you physically get in your production network ?
Can you connect a client directly to the same switch as the server is connected
to and there try it out ?

If it works in the office environment but not in the production environment
with the same clients and server it just has to be in the network.

Hi Jan,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I meant that I cannot boot even one client so ALL clients are having the same
problems even a test client I have set up in Vmware.

The clients and the server are on the same network and same segment so there
should be no router or firewall between them.

The windows OTC server has it's firewall completely turned off for the time
being.

I to feel it must be a network issue but I don't know where to start looking
for the problem.

Any ideas ?

Do you mean that there is ONE client that causes this problem or ANY/ALL
clients ?

If one client, then just forget that client, if all clients then check your
network for any routers / firewwalls in between segments of clients and the OTC
boot server. If the SAME clents and server work in your office environment but
not production then it's a network issue.

Hi,

I have successfully installed, booted and tested OTC (Windows) in my office
environment without major problems and it works beautifully.

The problems I am having are when I installed it in the production environment.

I can't seem to get one client past the "Mounting root file system " prompt.

Any ideas of what may be wrong would be highly appreciated.
