[opnfv-tech-discuss] [apex] Enable trunk ports on Apex

2018-01-15 Thread Georg Kunz
Hi guys,

In the context of Dovetail, we are working on extending the test scope of the
OPNFV platform. One addition to the test scope is running the existing tempest
tests of the Neutron trunk port feature. In order to run those, the trunk port
feature needs to be enabled, of course, which however doesn't seem to be a
major effort [1].

I have two questions for you: Is this feature already enabled in Apex? If not,
would you guys be willing to enable it for Fraser? It seems that there is
something already on TripleO master upstream [2] (but my understanding of
TripleO is limited). I have already been in contact with Fuel and Compass and
trunking has been enabled on their platforms.

[1] https://docs.openstack.org/ocata/networking-guide/config-trunking.html
[2]
https://github.com/openstack/tripleo-heat-templates/blob/master/environments/neutron-bgpvpn-opendaylight.yaml

Thank you
Georg

2018-01-15 Thread MORTON, ALFRED C (AL)
Thanks Aaron.

I have to give an e-mail update this week:
my usual schedule is over-ridden.
Sorry to miss the DMA talk.

We had a very productive meeting last week
where the folks present were mostly sympathetic
and in agreement that IFA027 (and a few other specs
should be edited/revised) as the simplest solution
to the requirements of TST008. There are a few
more details to sort-out during another joint meeting
this week.

regards,
Al

[opnfv-tech-discuss] opnfv gerrit page update

2018-01-15 Thread Ryota Mibu
Hi OPNFV developers,

I'd like to gather comments on the following ideas for our gerrit page update
(https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/).

  1. Logo in gerrit page

Add OPNFV logo in our gerrit page, so that we can easily identify OPNFV
gerrit page among other gerrit pages of other upstream projects. Icon in
browser tab should be changed to OPNFV leaf logo as well.

  2. Links to developer pages

Add links to Jira, Jenkins, Artifacts and other developer pages. That will
enable developer to use the gerrit page as a main portal site for day-to-day
development, rather than Jira. What we can expect more is an increase of
reviews, which is very important in open source projects.

I believe these proposals are bringing only benefits. But if there is a problem
with such updates, we need to know before bad things happen.

Thanks,
Ryota

[opnfv-tech-discuss] [infra] Meeting time and calender invites.

2018-01-15 Thread Luke Hinds
Hello All,

A couple of points:

Meeting times were discussed. It was planned to move back to 16:00 UTC
which works better for North America (and myself and Fatih), but this is
not good for Asia (where its midnight). Open to ideas input, however just
to note I won't be able to chair at 15:00 UTC, so would need to rain check
that time.

Calender invites: This seems silly to me. In my opinion folks should manage
their own calenders, just as we do upstream. Currently every two months the
chair sends out a meeting request to tech-discuss, that gets used by a few
and then gets a ton of declines messaged back. My proposal, manage your own
calender and then if your timezone changes, you can just move the invite
yourself.

Cheers,

Luke

Hi Balint,

We have had multiple requests in the past to support a no-OpenStack mode but we
have not officially added support for that mode for lack of resources.
Having said that, I do not think it would be a lot of work because all the main
SW pieces to support this mode are already in place and working (EXT chain mode
is definitely the right starting point).

Michael is currently adding a feature for EXT chain that allows to specify the
chain MAC addresses in the config (otherwise the current code expects your
chain end points to reply to ARP). This will allow to test with external chains
that do not support ARP.

Other than that, it would be just a matter of disabling a few functions related
to OpenStack (mainly the OpenStack credentials code and Neutron network
discovery), probably a couple of days of work for somebody familiar with python
coding.

If you have cycles to contribute there, I’d be happy to guide you and point you
to what needs to change.

Regards,

   Alec

Hi,

Thanks for infos.

My NFVBench installed on a bare metal server, I would like to benchmark
different network elements, VNFs with it. So I only need to generate test with
NFVBench and I do not want to manage Openstack or any other network element
with it. Is this possible?

openrc config is the default one with some port info:

{
"openrc_file": "/tmp/nfvbench/openrc",

"traffic_generator": {
"generator_profile": [
{
"interfaces": [
{
"pci": "00:04.0",
"port": 0,
},
{
"pci": "00:03.0",
"port": 1,
}
],
"intf_speed": "10Gbps",
"ip": "127.0.0.1",
"name": "trex-local",
"software_mode": false,
"tool": "TRex"
}
]
}
}

Peter

Hi Peter,

This looks to be a problem with the openstack authentication (openrc file)
while trying to list a neutron network:

networks = self.neutron.list_networks(name=network_name)

In EXT chain mode, the code will attempt to retrieve the characteristics of the
right and left external networks (configured in your config file as
“nfvbench-net0” and “nfvbench-net1”) to get their VLAN ids

Could you share the content of the openrc file used and what version of
openstack are your running?
Something you can try real quick is to source the openrc file in the container
(source /tmp/nfvbench/openrc) and try to show the 2 networks using neutron cli
and see if you hit the same exception (neutron router-list, or neutron
network-show nfvbench-net0)

  Alec

Hi,

I started to investigate NFVBench for use as benchmarking software, and I got
some errors.

I attached the output and config file.

I tried to use it in External Chain mode.

Could you please give some recommended settings or could you provide me any
information which help to fix.

[opnfv-tech-discuss] Developer event prior to ONS

2018-01-15 Thread Raymond Paik
All,

This is one of the topics for the TSC call tomorrow (
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/meetings/TSC#TSC-January16,2018)...

Prior to the main ONS event kicking off in the afternoon of March 27th,
there will be a 1 1/2 day developer event. Rather than having separate
design summit-type events for individual projects (e.g. OPNFV, ONAP, fd.io,
ODL, etc.), the goal this year is to foster collaboration across different
communities under the LFN.

To that end, I'd like to get your feedback on several tracks below that
could be of interest across communities. We'll have time to discuss this
during the call tomorrow, but please feel free to provide any feedback via
e-mail.

   - Container networking:
  - Using container technologies for building applications, deployment,
  testing, etc.
  - Cloud native development
  - Working in heterogeneous environment with containers and VMs
   - Cross-community CI/Lab infrastructure:
  - Cross community effort to shorten development & feedback cycles
  - Tooling for streamlined XCI
  - Lab infrastructure/resource available for LFN projects
   - Integrated testing:
  - Opportunities for streamlining/removing duplicate testing efforts
  across LFN projects
  - Analyzing test results
  - Long-duration/stress testing and other frontiers
  - Security testing
   - Standards & Open Source:
  - How open source projects can work more effectively with standards
  organizations (e.g. ETSI, MEF, IETF, etc.) to address new industry
  challenges
  - Complementing each parties' (i.e. open source projects' & SDO's)
  strengths
  - Feedback mechanism between open source projects & SDO's
   - VNFs:
   - Onboarding and deployment
  - Lifecycle management
  - Testing VNFs

Thanks,

Ray

Sorry for the delay on this as I was checking internally on this.

What Bryan has for VES works, but I also went ahead and created a template
that people can use at
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/DEV/License+information+for+Docker+images

Let me know if you have any feedback/questions.

Thanks,

Ray

I think this is a create idea. Already using too many open tabs in browser in
