Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [yardstick] Weekly meeting move to Wednesday at ONS

2018-03-29 Thread Foley, Emma L
Hi folks,

We had three action items from yesterday's meeting:

-Cut the stable branch

o There was one outstanding open review, which has been merged.

o Stable branch review is here: https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/54625/

o Any blocking Jira items that come up should be addressed and backported

o If these issues are addressed before the branch is cut, the review should
be updated with the new commit

-Set up a new meeting time

o Proposed new time is 08h30 UTC on Tuesdays (09h30 IST, 16h30 CST)

o We will run the meeting at this time starting on Tuesday, April 3rd.

-Add proposals for Gambia features

o   https://etherpad.opnfv.org/p/yardstick_release_g

Best regards,
Emma

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] Fraser Release Updates -- Action Required from PTLs/Committers

2018-03-29 Thread Amar Kapadia
Hi All,

Just a quick reminder to PTLs/committers -- please fill up this wiki by
tomorrow on your project's Fraser updates. So far I only see 5 updates :)

Thanks,
Amar

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [nfvbench] testpmd

2018-03-29 Thread Alec Hothan (ahothan)

Hi Peter,

Traffic generation used to be gated by a phase that tries to make sure packets
are flowing in both directions at low rate (used to be 100pps). This means that
as soon as we seen packets flowing in both directions, traffic generation at
requested rate will start.
Is that not sufficient in your case?

I’d like to note that we had some gating issues for multi-chain support – where
the traffic generation was started too early due to a flaw in the gating logic
(https://jira.opnfv.org/projects/NFVBENCH/issues/NFVBENCH-56?filter=allissues)
But this has been fixed recently by using an algorithm that actually checks the
src MAC or returning frames. So perhaps you ran into the same issue?
The important point in your case is to understand how soon traffic can be
blasted after the first packet comes back in each direction. Typically
forwarders that use MAC learning only need the first packet to go through to
guarantee optimal forwarding conditions. If your SUT requires a pause, this can
be added to NFVbench relatively easily.

Thanks

  Alec

Hi Alec,

I faced with an other problem.

When I start the test, NFVBench is blasting traffic immediately and not setting
up a flow, as a result there incur some initial losses as the flows are being
added to the kernel and dpdk.

My question is it possible to postpone the start of measurement with a few sec
after traffic generation started?

Peter

I think there is a bug in that new piece of code, let me check with the person
who wrote it.
In the meantime if you want a workaround, you could go ahead and remove that
whole if block (in container, edit /nfvbench/nfvbench/nfvbench.py L169) - it
can be safely removed.

Thanks

[opnfv-tech-discuss] OpenCI is here

2018-03-29 Thread Fatih Degirmenci
Hi,

I would like to give everyone a short recap of the Cross Community CI/CD and
Infra workshop that was held on March 24-25 2018 in LA prior to ONS.

30+ participants from 8 different communities/organizations attended to the
workshop. [1][2]

  *   OPNFV
  *   OpenStack
  *   OpenDaylight
  *   fd.io
  *   CNCF
  *   ONAP
  *   Ansible
  *   LF

Some of the the participants of the workshop develop, operate, and maintain the
CI/CD and Infra used by the corresponding communities such as

  *   OPNFV Infra/XCI
  *   CNCF Cross Cloud CI
  *   OpenStack Infra/Zuul/OpenLab
  *   LF Releng/Infra

The workshop was a success.

We had 2 full days of intensive and fruitful conversations around different
topics such as use cases, concerns, constraints, vocabulary, integrating CIs,
security, testing, tooling, developer feedback and many other related things in
CI/CD and Infra area.

The conclusion of the workshop is to continue pushing things together by start
working on several key/initial themes in a collaborative manner and
invite/involve everyone/communities who is interested in CI/CD and Infra to
join to this initiative.

I would like to invite and urge OPNFV Community to take part in this because we
as community faced many of the similar challenges since the very early days of
OPNFV.
We can tell our story, share our experiences, learn from others and
collaboratively address the issues in CI/CD and Infra open source ecosystem
faces.

Please keep an eye on OpenCI Website, https://openci.io, where we will be
publishing the outcome of the workshop and making announcements.
You can also take a look at the Wiki and start collaborating using the tools we
have listed there. [3]
There is also an IRC channel #openci on Freenode. Please join to that as well.

Next OpenCI workshops will be held during OpenDev 2018 which is colocated with
OpenStack Summit Vancouver on May 22-23. I hope and I wish you can join us
there. [4]

Finally, I would like to thank members of the OPNFV and 7 other communities who
took part in this workshop.

As I said many times before, what we have now is just the beginning and we are
on our way to change things.

2018-03-29 Thread Tallgren, Tapio (Nokia - FI/Espoo)
Hi,

The Nokia lab architecture is on
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/pharos/Nokia+Hosting.

You can run TRex on the jump host unless you want to do some custom
installation. The NICs are standard Intel 82599's aka Niantics, so dpdk should
just work.

I do not know how TRex works but I have had some difficulties with Moongen with
the ToR switches. Moongen uses timing packets and these do not go cleanly
through the ToRs, but everything works with a direct connection. Let me know if
you need something unusual.

Just want to add the ETA for getting bare metal installation automated by
script would have to be before this summer – which is not that far away (3
months).
To avoid any last minute surprise and further delay, it would be great if Tapio
could identify which jump host to use to run Trex and whether/when it will have
the proper NIC by then. Also note that we should be able to verify the proper
connectivity from TRex to the TOR and back without requiring a bare metal
openstack installation.
Once we get Trex operational, we will be able to run any test that relies on
Trex.

Thanks

   Alec

Hi,

It is really nice to have us gather around and to move things forward!
I have made a brief summary of our discussion today. Please find it below and
comment if there is anything missing or misleading, thanks!

Brief summary LDT breakout discussion

1. SUT deployment

a) We should have a transition solution for SUT deployment, so that
test projects could adapt their test cases

 i.  Currently,
deploy xci-virtual first on another POD

   ii.  It could be
triggered through jenkin

 iii.  Gabriel send the
name list to Fatih to gain access of the deployment

b)It would best to have a script for deploy xci baremetal, so that we
can manually do deployment on Nokia POD

2. LDT CI requirements and set-up

a) For transition solution, we only support job triggering

b)For all the Jenkins requirements, Fatih will come with a solution
later

3. Hardware configurations for Traffic generator

a) NFVbench need bare metal deployment

b)Need to confirm with Tapio about the support for traffic generators

For yesterday’s presentation, please refer to
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/testing/Long+Duration+Testing.

Thanks,
Gabriel

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [doctor] Meeting time

2018-03-29 Thread Juvonen, Tomi (Nokia - FI/Espoo)
Hi Doctors,

There is now a tie between 3 different time proposals for the meeting.
8am UTC+1+1 +1
9am UTC+1 +1 +1
10am UTC+1 +1 +1

I propose we choose 10am UTC starting from our next meeting March 9th

Just a note, that we should now have the content for stable Fraser, thanks for
the efforts.

Br,
Tomi

Hi Doctors,

As of the summits and Easter our next meeting would be April 9th

Meantime daylight savings makes it so that the meeting time is not so good at
least for me. As the active members in meetings have come from Far East and
Europe we have earlier fixed the time to 11:00 UTC. Based on this assumption
will remain valid I have added voting for new time to our meeting page starting
from line 12:
https://etherpad.opnfv.org/p/doctor_meetings

Please add other times if none is feasible for you. In case hard to have
winning time let's use this mail thread to discuss further.

Br,
Tomi

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [nfvbench] testpmd

2018-03-29 Thread Balint, Peter (Nokia - HU/Budapest)

Br,

Peter

I think there is a bug in that new piece of code, let me check with the person
who wrote it.
In the meantime if you want a workaround, you could go ahead and remove that
whole if block (in container, edit /nfvbench/nfvbench/nfvbench.py L169) - it
can be safely removed.

Thanks
  Alec

Since you are using only 1 external chain, you only need 1 entry in each list.
You also probably will need more than 1 core for TRex.

traffic_generator:
ip_addrs: ['16.0.0.0/24', '48.0.0.0/24']
#tg_gateway_ip_addrs: ['192.168.0.2', '192.168.2.2']
#gateway_ip_addrs: ['192.168.0.12', '192.168.2.12']
mac_addrs_left: [‘FA:16:3E:2B:B0:D1]
mac_addrs_right: [‘FA:16:3E:D0:47:B1']
generator_profile:
- name: trex-local
  tool: TRex
  ip: 127.0.0.1
  cores: 2
  software_mode: false,
  interfaces:
- port: 0
