Hi guys, I deleted one of my datafile, and I can't recover it back because I have no backup. Can I drop my entire database without reinstalling my Oracle8i ?? Hi , is the datafile very very important to you and filled with many records ? if the datafile can be ignored, you dont have to drop your database. just tell to the database that the lost datafile is explicitly dropped. first , you have to STARTUP NOMOUNT database , then in SVRMGR type : ALTER DATABASE mytestDB DATAFILE '/oradata/mydatafile.dbf' OFFLINE DROP. and then , ALTER DATABASE OPEN. Sorry , If you accidentally drop it without having backup , there's no other way to recover it... an exprienced DBA just write 3 lines in his summary presentation : 1.BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP 2.PRACTICE , PRACTICE , PRACTICE 3.
