9.2.0.3 job coordinator bug
hi gurus after all that trace and error stack, oracle has finally conculed that this is a bug and job queue coordinator messes up shared memory so badly it starts throwing 4031 errors for a few hours and eventaully dbwr terminates the instance. if jobs are the heart beat of ur system, please be aware of this and try to make the number of jobs in the queue less to avoid this issue, rather prolong the time until db crashes. otherwise ina big soup. suggestions: 1. increase job_queue_processes 2. flush share pool frequentl 3. bounce db everyday and i am telling the truth when i say the above were suggested by oracle until the patch is available. thanks sai -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net -- Author: Sai Selvaganesan INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services-- 858-538-5051 http://www.fatcity.com San Diego, California-- Mailing list and web hosting services - To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from). RE: Setting database owner to sid
If you are doing this just so you can use ipcs and be able to tell the owner of shared memory and semaphore etc. You should check into sysresv. It can tell you which sid owns what shared memory segments and semaphores. Check the setting for per process memory limits at the AIX level. In 4.3 there is a bug that allowed processes to exceed there memory allocations. RE: Setting database owner to sid
Dwayne - My guess is that you installed Oracle under the "oracle" account. This means the binaries are owned by Oracle. If you do an ls -l $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle, you will probably see the permissions something like: -rwsr-s--x 1 oracle dba 4238 Jul 31 2000 oracle This means that when the Oracle binary is run it does a "setuid" so that it runs as Oracle no matter what who the user is. The alternative is to not do this, which would mean that the Oracle binary would run as the individual user that started it, but there would probably be permission problems between the Oracle server process and the user shadow processes. You may find it simpler to install Oracle under each of these accounts. This takes up more space, but will allow you to upgrade each database independently. Or you may find what you are trying to accomplish is more trouble than it is worth. Dennis Williams DBA, 80%OCP, 100% DBA Lifetouch, Inc. Setting database owner to sid
Hi all, Here is what I am trying to do: I want to set up three different databases: test1, test2 and test3. Each database is created by a user named after the sid (i.e. test1, test2, etc). I want each database to be owned by the user so that when I run ipcs to look at memory processes, each database is identified by a different owner. Would someone point me in the right direction to accomplish this? Currently, every database is owned by the oracle account and I am having a tough time figuring this out. I was hoping to rebuld these databases this weekend to reflect the above. I am running Oracle8i on RedHat 8.0 (will be upgrading to RHAS and Oracle9i in a few months). Thanks in advance for your help. Re: Oracle's use of Indexes
Yes, I have such a tool also. Unfortunately for me, when I try to use it on my most problem child database, it barfs and dies with and ORA-3113. Seems 'explain plan' chokes and dies on complex plans, such as when evaluating the execution path for an insert that goes through an 'on insert' trigger. This is 8.1.7.4, the bug was supposedly fixed by then. Guess what the fix is now? You guessed it, 'just upgrade your database'. Simon Travaglia must work for Oracle. RE: HP-Sun Cross Platform Migration - Exp/Imp, CTAS over dblink o
K I'm looking to move a large database from HP/Compaq/DEC Alpha to Sun. Any possibility the datafiles might be compatible? Sashidar This was discussed quite a bit on this list 5/14, the subject was "quickest method". The consensus seemed to be that: 1. SQL*Loader in direct path mode is the fastest. The catch is the hassle of getting the data out to a flat file and creating a loader control file. 2. Database links and exp/imp are roughly the same speed, so you have to test to see which will be fastest for your situation. I plan to test these various methods in our environment, since the downtime window will be rather small. Consider using the 80/20 principle (Pareto's Rule). Typically, just a handful of tables contain most of the data. In my case, a single table contains about 25% of the data. It is worth the effort to develop a method to dump the data to a flat file and to create a loader control file if that is the fastest method. For the many small files, just use exp/imp. Please update me on any conclusions you reach since this topic is of significant interest to me. Thanks. Dennis Williams DBA, 80%OCP, 100% DBA Lifetouch, Inc. Re: HP-Sun Cross Platform Migration - Exp/Imp, CTAS over dblink or ..
Sashidar: In THEORY HP datafiles and Sun data files are compaible. That is you can just move the HP data files to the Sun server and recreate the data files. Both data files are in same endianness and they are cross platform compatible. There is no tool to convert a datafile from one OS format to another OS format. Some time back, some one (Guess who??) tried developing a tool and the idea was dropped since Oracle started addressing this issue as a standard feature inside the RDBMS product. So there is no third party tool available in the market to do that conversion and I don't expect any new tools to do that. Having said that, that above said method is NOT officially supported by Oracle in current versions. You have to wait for some more time to get that officially supported by Oracle (clue!!) If you have a faster interconnect CTAS will be much faster than export import method, I remember seeing some comparitive numbers in Metalink.. Have you checked that? = Have a nice day !! HP-Sun Cross Platform Migration - Exp/Imp, CTAS over dblink or ..
Hi all: We are considering migration of an Oracle eBusiness Suite 11.5.8 from HP-UX 11.0 to Solaris9. I'd like to know if anyone has done this and how daunting the task is. Are there any 3rd Party tools which can help out? Coming to the conventional approaches: 1. What do you think of Export/Import of a 200 GB database? 1a. How much time will it take? 1b. Any strategies for cutting that down? 2. How does CTAS over dblink compare to Export/Import? 3. Is there any tool that converts Oracle datafiles on HP-UX 11.0 to Oracle datafiles on Solaris 9. If so we would just need to recreate the control files on the target database and we are done. Any suggestions, pointers, words of wisdom are greatly appreciated...
