having select from db link problems from 8.0.5.2.1

2001-08-14 Thread Naik, Sandesh S

Dear List,
 I have 8.0.5.2.1(32bit) database on HP-UX 11.0 server.
I have a database link connecting to other database. I get following error
while trying to access objects thorough db link ( db link goes to 8.1.6.2.0
(64bit) database on HP-UX 11.0

ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

There is work around to put IP address for this host in tnsnames.ora which
fixes the problems. Is there any other good solution to this problem?
All your suggestions are always welcome.

Thank you

We are moving one database from 8.0.5.2.2 32bit HP-UX 10.20 machine to
8.0.5.2.1 32bit HP-UX 11.0 machine.
Is there anything special needs to be done for this move or I can just move
the database with hot backup?

RE: e-mail from within the database

2001-07-25 Thread Naik, Sandesh S

Fred,
You can load pl/sql using following to load pl/sql in database.

loadjava -force -user sys/sys's password plsql.jar

It works fine for us. You have to use -force to load it if the script fails.

RE: A lazy connection!

2001-07-24 Thread Naik, Sandesh S

Thank you friends,
But we finally figured out. Actually the OUT parameter is procedure is
useless as Shailesh pointed out , there is no variable to put the OUT value
in auto-execute.
So this is what we did. Kept the OUT parameter ( we could took it out but
developer insisted to keep it as they might use that procedure in Pro*C) in
the procedure and rewrote the submit job script like this.

declare
  jobno number;
begin
 dbms_job.submit(jobno,'declare errno number; begin
l_load_weekly_aps.p_load_ocn(errno); end;',sysdate,'sysdate+1');
end;

Now it submits and while auto-executing through dbms_job.run also finds the
variable to put the OUT parameter valus, but we still can not see this
value.
But hey, it solves the problems job executes fine without any of those
errors I was getting before.
Thanks everybody for the input and replies.

We're running the same environment as you, except that we're using HP/UX

fine. This machine is (don't yell!) half-Test and half-Production, and
the 8.1.6 database is the production half. It just worked.

It's due to a trigger. Unfortunately it looks very similar to the error I
was getting on the trigger which recorded destructive DDL. The corrected
trigger code has been sent in another mail; a close cursor statment was
placed incorrectly in the code. Your statement is failing because the
program is trying to close a cursor which was not opened. The original mail
did have warnings about the code not being thoroughly tested.

No doubt Novell at the time was more stable than
NT at the time.

But some of these stories, which can start off as My
Novell box seems more stable than that NT 3.51 SP 1 box
mutate into internet apocrypha faster than you can spell telephone.

Before you know it, it's a heartlung machine, coded in assembler,
running on a Novell beta release cross compiled to the Kaypro,
which has been up, even through tornadoes, for 22 years. Meanwhile,
the NT box crashed on boot up, then corrupted the disk, sold the
house, and slept with my wife.

I always ask for details. Two reasons. The first is to take a
litmus test for veracity. The other is (assuming veracity) to
learn something about how to make systems stable. shrug
