RE: Automatic backup on Oracle 9i -- For Jared

2003-01-02 Thread OraCop
Even though i strongly think that there is nothing
wrong in writing U instead of you, respecting your
feelings towards the list, and considering the fact
that we must think above such small matters, I will be

careful in future.

Thanks.

Well, I understand that writing "you" is not much
trouble compared to writing "U", but understanding
"U", should not be much trouble either. Don't U think
so?

Please describe the role of veritas NB in detail and

Spool output issue on solaris

2002-12-19 Thread OraCop
This is what i am doing:

1- login to sqlplus on solaris
2- spool temp.out
3- run an sql file useing: @myfile.sql
   Sql file contains this:
 set termout off
 set head off
 set echo off
 set feedback off
select * from dual;
 set termout on
 set head on
 set echo on
 set feedback on
4- spool off
Spool file has expected output, which is result of
sql statement ONLY!

Now when i place following in a shell script and run
it

#!/bin/ksh

$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus liserv/liserv@webny << EOF
set feedback off
set head off
set echo off
set termout off
spool output.txt
   select * from dual;
spool off
set feedback on
set head on
set echo on
set termout on
exit;
___

Now question is that in later case where i use shell
script along with out put of query , WHY DO I SEE THE
ACTUAL SQL STATEMENT IN SPOOL FILE ALSO? Even though i
have feedback, echo and termout off .

Any way around.

I want ONLY output of query in spool file when sql
file is run using a SHELL SCRIPT!.

Thanks.

Re: [Q] ORACLE 9i remote export "insufficient previlege"?

2002-11-26 Thread OraCop
Very true... But * IF * John's solution does not work
then reason for mentioned error is because U probably
ran "CATEXP.sql" AGAIN after running CATPROC.SQL.
Anyway to correct this simply run
"%oracle_home%\rdbms\admin\CATRM.SQL" script connected
as SYS or INTERNAL.

If CATEXP.SQL was rerun after CATPROC.SQL (this runs
CATRM.SQL) the modification made to the
EXP_FULL_DATABASE role by CATRM.SQL no longer exist
since CATEXP.SQL drops and creates the
EXP_FULL_DATABASE role.The privileges granted to
the role by CATRM.SQL are necessary to export the
resource manager objects.

RE: LONG's

2002-11-26 Thread OraCop
Sorry I missed 2nd part of Ur question.

LOB is not a datatype it self. LOB = Long Object.
Oracle provides 2 kind of LOBs. CLOB and BLOB
If U want to store Binary data, eg pdf files, movies,
sound files, etc, use BLOB(Binary long Object).
For other U can use CLOB.

U can use To_LOB(long_col) to convert long to

Backup/Restore

2002-11-12 Thread OraCop
Hello,
   I need to comeup with backup strategy for my
   production oracle systems running 9iR2 on Solaris9.

   I do have veritas Netbackup installed. I would
   really appreciate if someone can answer these
   important questions for me.

1- Do I need to install Veritas Oracle agent for
   backup?
2- What are COMPLETE steps involved to
   backup/restore if I want to use Veritas for
   this purpose?
3- I am using following script to create backup on

   the local disk. This script does not delete the
   archive log files after backing 'em up. Why
   not? I am using this script at RMAN prompt.
   (connect to recvcat)

run {
allocate channel c1 type disk;
backup
full
#incremental level 2 # 0 1 2 or up
skip inaccessible
tag hot_db_bk_level0
filesperset 5
# recommended format
format '/data/oraidx/backup/bk_%s_%p_%t'
(database);
sql 'alter system archive log current';
# backup all archive logs
backup
filesperset 20
format '/data/oraidx/backup/al_%s_%p_%t'
(archivelog all
delete input);
release channel c1;
}

   4- What is the procedure to restore using files
  created as output of above script?
   5- Any ideas/links to help improve backup
  strategy, using veritas and RMAN.
Thanks.
