Hi!

I'm new to HP-UX and need to find out how many processors are in a
mchine
and at what clock speed they operate. I can get the number of CPUs
through
glance or top, but I have no idea about the clock speed. How would I get
that information?

I would know how to do it on Solaris though... ;)

Thanks,
Helmut

Pawan,
To increase the size of your redo log is a multi step operation:
Basically you ;
select * from v$log; Gets info about logs...

select * from v$logfile; Gets more info about logs...

alter system switch logfile; Allows you to force a particular log
active...

alter database drop logfile group 1; Drops a non active log

alter database
add logfile group 1 'ORA:oranw734\database\glcd1-1.rdo' size 10 M;
Creates a new log..

alter database
add logfile member 'SYS:\glcd1-2.rdo' to group 1; Adds a second log to
the group...

Perform the above steps until you have resized all of the logs to the
size you want and have cycled them through the active status to make
sure they work.

The RMAN executables and scripts have to reside in a server running
Oracle8.x and above (i.e. the target database server), but the
database
housing the recovery catalog database is just a database that holds
tables,
indexes, sequences, views, and stored procedures/functions/packages.
RMAN
doesn't run on Oracle7, but it doesn't need to. EBU is completely out
of
the picture (as it should be!)...

O/S

Years ago, we backed up an 8.1.5 production database (along with
it's
  dev
environment) with the RMAN catalog housed on an NT workstation
running
7.3.4. Worked just fine. We eventually upgraded the NT box to
8.1.5
  also,
but that was just an export/import and we were off and running
again...

The RMAN recovery catalog is just another database application to
the
database housing it. There really aren't any version-specific
demands
placed by RMAN upon that database (of which I'm aware), save that it
is
accessible by SQL*Net. I'm not recommending 7.3.4 for the
repository,

 yechiel,

I didn't miss the comment, it's not relevant. Archived logs are merely
copies of redo logs that have been filled. Whether or not archiving is
turned on, redo logs get filled and reused. Oracle tracks the log
switches no matter what mode you are in, it just doesn't make the copy
of the redo log if you aren't in archive log mode.

So he can definitely track log switches in the alert log or in
v$log_history. Given the number of switches in a week (this is
approximately the number of archived logs that will be created), he
can
multiply that by the size of his largest redo log (hopefully they are
all the same size but take the largest one if they are not). That will
give him the maximum amount of space his archived logs will take in a
normal week, barring any unusual load activity.

Now archived logs generally are NOT the full size of the redo logs
so this will overestimate. But it's better to have too much space than
 too little
